$10.00 a Day to Keep the Kids at Play

By: Amy Royce

If you have kids in school, you know how excited they get when Christmas break rolls around. This excitement soon gives in to boredom, though. Most schools shut down for two weeks. In order to keep them from getting bored, you have to find activities for them to do. Here are ten activities to keep them occupied.

Oh, one more thing. You can do each of these activities for under ten dollars per child!

1. Movie

Movies are a great way to stay occupied for at least two hours. A movie at the “Cheap Seats” is $3.00 per person. This leaves $7.00 for popcorn and drinks

2. Ice Skating

Admission for Ice Skating is $3.00 per person. You can bring your own skates or you can rent skates for $2.00. If you have to rent skates, that leaves you with 5.00 for snacks.

3. Roller Skating

Admission for Roller Skating is $3.00 per person. You can bring your own skates or you can rent skates for $2.00. If you have to rent skates, that leaves you with $5.00 for snacks.

4. Swimming

It costs $5.00 per person to swim for 4 hours. If you have an indoor pool in your town, this is a fun way to keep them busy and it is good exercise as well!

5. Arcade

As we all know, kids love video games. $10.00 may or may not last for very long at an arcade, but they will have a lot of fun. Most arcades give out tickets for prizes, so they won’t go home empty handed.

6. Library

The library is a great place to have your kids go during Christmas break. We all want our kids to read more. The library usually will have someone read to kids on certain days of the week, and best of all, it’s free!

7. The Park

Kids love to go to the park. They can literally spend hours there and not even realize it. This is another way that they stay active and have fun as well. Free also!!

8. Planetarium

The planetarium is a fun educational place. After the show, there is a display of meteors and other “space stuff” It is a really neat place to visit and it only costs $2.50 per person. That leaves $7.50 to purchase something at the gift store.

9. Science Zone

The Science Zone is an excellent place for kids to learn anything they ever wanted to know about Science. This place teaches kids about things such as electricity and reptiles. It is a hands on learning environment. It costs $3.00 per person to get in. They would have $7.00 left over to buy something at the gift shop.

10. Rec Center or YMCA

The Rec Center or YMCA is a place your kids can go to stay active. You have to have a membership to go, but once you have that, your kids can go at anytime and play basketball or swim. Some places offer different classes that your kids can take as well.

Keep in mind that these are prices in my home town. They may vary a little from place to place. Also, you may not have access to some of the activities listed above, but this will give you a start to keeping the kids busy during Christmas break.
