3 Labeling Tricks To Help With Organization

By: Alyssa Davis

Whether you work from home full-time or part-time, you know how challenging it can be to stay organized. Despite countless resolutions to keep your home's clutter under control, the reality is that it can be extremely difficult to do. One of the easiest and most effective ways to help you gain the upper hand on the clutter chaos is to use labels. Labeling is a painless way to organize and the three tricks below can show you how to do it.

Mail
You grab the mail, walk in the house and place it on a counter or foyer table. For many of us, that mail will still be there days later. Thankfully, with a mail organizer and some labels, you can quickly take control of that clutter. Start by placing a bin next to the area where the mail tends to pile up. Next, create labels that say: Pay, File, and Reply. When you bring the mail inside, make a conscious choice to sort it immediately. Junk mail goes immediately in the bin for recycling, bills to be paid go in the "pay" bin, information that needs to be filed goes under "file" and anything that you need to respond to in another way gets a spot in the "reply" section of the organizer. With everything labeled, it will be easy to keep track of what needs to be done with each piece of mail.

To-Do
Much like the mail organization system, your home office can benefit from some quick labeling. In a stackable organizer or file folder system, create labels for each day of the week that you work. As projects get added throughout the week, file the information in the folder for the day when you will be working on that particular task. For instance, if you have to design a brochure for a client and will be working on it on Thursday, file all information about that brochure design and requirements in the Thursday folder. Each morning, you can quickly pull out the folder for that day and have all of the necessary information at hand without having to search for the items that you need. By labeling the folders ahead of time, you will have no trouble staying organized.

Closets
Moms know that closets can be a black hole of miscellaneous items. One way to come back from the depths of clutter is to organize your closet with labels. Start by sorting the items and removing the things that do not belong. Make labels for each bin and box that goes back in the closet, listing the contents of each clearly on the side. Not only will this make it easier to find things when you open the closet, but it will also help you see what you need to restock. This is especially important in business, as it ensures that you always have the supplies on hand that you need.

Labeling helps take the guesswork out of where things go. It gives you control over the location of the things that come into your home instead of having them control you. Best of all, labeling is a simple solution to a problem that can seem, at times, overwhelming. Have fun labeling your life and watch how it quickly transforms into a manageable, organized existence.
