Home | Starting A Home Business
Are you wanting to start a work from home business but not sure virtual assisting or business consulting is the type of business that's going to work for you? You can virtually start any service type business with little or no money. The businesses I have listed in this article are 1)easy to get started and 2) don't require a lot of overhead. In fact, I have used several of the models to generate some quick cash when I was running low. 1. Writing You can do business, technical, academic, resume, and ghost writing. sales copy, newsletters and ezines as well as formatting papers and manuscripts, business plans, and reports. I developed a whole program with a writer once for a seminar. We gave her an outline and she created a great presentation based on a program we wanted to transfer into a seminar presentation. If in your former life you put together presentations, training manuals, or docs, this could be a great field for you to get into. And easy too. You just need to post ads on craigslist and definitely use guru.com to generate business. I would say the going rate for one well put together seminar is 1-2k. You can also make money writing for online marketers. They will pay you top dollar to write articles for their blogs, websites, and submission on article submission sites. Its an easy way to earn money and if you get really good you can start writing books as well as sales copy for web pages. Don't be afraid to try something new, you just have to know how to market your skills. After your first couple of clients, you will be a pro. What you will Need This is such as easy business to get going too. If I were to start this type of business I would start off with a guru account, website and professional email address, a few good business brochures and business package with examples of my work. Note: If you have any writing example, training manuals, or documentation from an old employer, take a Saturday or Sunday and recreate them to fit your new business needs. Yes it sucks to work on the weekend, but you will reap the benefits. Make sure you have a great sales letter/cover letter to give to potential clients. It sells them every time. 2. Outsourcing Company As stated above, you can take almost any service type company and turn it into an outsourcing opportunity where your job is to manage and schedule your workers as well as run your business. All you need is a concept (telemarketing, VA work, web design, concierge service, errand running, bookkeeping, notary, ect) and outsource the work. For example, you charge your clients $300 dollars for 20 hours of service related work. You can then pay your assistant to do the work for $10 dollars an hour netting yourself $100 dollars. You can start off small with one extra helper and lower rates then systematically increase your rates and your helpers growing your business the entire time. Think of the possibilities as they are endless. And remember to always use good contractors, start small and grow big. I go more into detail as to how this type of company works and what you need to get it going in my book, "Stop Making Your Boss Rich!". 3. Car Auctions If I ever need to come up with quick cash I attend a local car auction. You can buy some great cars for less than 1K and sometimes under $500 and resell them for twice as much. This is a great way to generate some income and quickly. You don't have to transfer the title in your name as long as you sell the car within 30 days (check your own state for laws that apply to you). You just simply transfer the paperwork to the new owner. Make sure you get cars that many people want. Great sellers are always sports cars, mini vans, suv's , and Hondas from my experience. You can always start really small and reinvest. I have started with as little as $300 dollars bought a cheap car sold it for 1K then reinvested the money to buy 2 more cars or one really nice car and then sold that. The key is to be quick and make a good buck while not price gouging. Always let people know you bought the car at an auction. Offering Paypal as a payment method is great too when selling on craigslist. Craigslist is a great resource for selling cars. If you get really good at this, you can translate your car buyinh abilities into an entire business offering low income or bad credit people options to buy cars with no financing and make a ton of money. For example you have a fleet of 5 cars which you bought each one for less than $1500 dollars. You get a cheap piece of land or even your house to store the cars at. You start advertising that you offer no finance car sales. When the buyer comes to pick up their car you have marked the car up 100% to 3K. You offer to sell it to the individual with half payment up front and they can either make weekly or monthly payments to pay off the rest of the car (with interest of course, charge what your state allows). Not only did you already get your investment back but you are making a hefty amount in payments with interest as well. So it's a win-win for you and the client because they are getting a car they would not be able to obtain without your help and you just got yourself a great income stream. A couple things to consider in this business...know your state laws when it comes to car sales. Some states require you to carry a specialized license, also you may have to register the cars if you end up starting a no finance company and offer trip permits, ect. Also make sure you have made contact with a great tow truck company or repo man as you may have to use them. Have a good contract stating if payment is late, you will repo the car immediately. If they do default, you get the car back and you can again resell it asking for half payment up front. 4. Storage Auctions Many people do not realize that storage facilities usually hold an auction every month to get rid of units where the tenant did not pay their monthly dues. Did you realize they literally sell these items for 1/3 of what they actually cost? I knew someone who had their life possessions in one of these units including furniture, TVs, DVD players, and gaming systems. Everything in that unit was valued at well over 5K. Do you know how much it sold for? $190 dollars!! Can you believe that? I also know someone else who actually bought a storage unit that had thousands of dollars in Mary K products in there for $50 bucks and sold everything to one individual for 2K. So it's definitely possible to make a great income from storage auctions. Start small and just go and browse local auctions to see how it works. You don't have to buy right away. You can just see how the process works. Remember though that you have to take all the items that you buy. Also don't ever try and contact the person whose things were in there, as they may be hostile, but do the right thing and bring personal effects to the office. Many times they will attempt to locate the evicted party and give them pictures and so forth. Also if you have upscale storage places in your area like PODs, live somewhere like NY or LA, or even live close to your state capital. You may have hit the jackpot as these places offer more of a chance of getting valuable sought after items. Right now we are hitting a bad recession in this country and you may be able to purchase items for pennies on the dollar or even start a rent to own type business with the goods you purchase. These are some fast and easy ways to start a business and make some good money to. As always consult a professional when it comes to taxes and so forth and be smart and reinvest your profits until you develop a steady income stream.
