5 Unique Tween And Teen "Work From Home" Jobs

By: Wendy Limauge

Is a fast food restaurant the only job a teen can look forward to? Not by a long shot. If you want to average more than $10 dollars an hour, set your own hours, work from home or work at home, and have some fun besides then read on!

Here are 5 unique tween and teen jobs you may want to consider:

1) Cleaning Up After People's Pets

You've probably heard about pet sitting or walking dogs, right? Well, this is a new twist.

How about picking up Doggie Doo? It takes less than an hour and you can make around $15 each time you work. It may not be the most glamourous job, but a pooper scooper makes it easy to do, and you never run out of work!

5) Sell Hand-Made Items on Etsy

Etsy is similar to eBay but this site is strictly for hand-made items. If you have a talent for making anything from sewn items, to jewelry, to baked goods, to dog collars then you can sell them on this Etsy.

They have over a million visitors looking to buy and they are growing fast. It is free to join. There is a 30¢ fee to list items and a 3.5% fee on sold items.

You probably should set up a PayPal account. You might need a parent to put it under their name if you are under 18 years of age. PayPal allows you to accept payments online and it is free to setup an account. Of course, PayPal takes a very small cut of the money you earn but without a service like that you would have no way of taking online payments so the fee is worth it.

You have to ship sold items to your customers. If you use the post office you can get free USPS boxes sent to your house for free. Just sign up online and the postal worker in your area will deliver them in about a week.

When you sell online you should get a separate email address just for selling. It helps you keep your sales emails separate from your personal emails so you don't get them mixed up.

3) Article Writing

Do you know how many websites there are? Millions! Zillions! The internet is definitely the business wave of the future. One of the best way for website owners to drive more customers to their websites for is through a blog. Keeping content written for a blog is very time-consuming so many blog owners turn to article directories or ghost writers.

This is where you come in! You can offer to write articles (about 400-500 words) for small website or blog owners. Usually you can get paid $10 to 20 dollars per article, sometimes even more.

If you decide to become a ghost writer you will not get the credit for writing the article. You get paid to write articles for other people.

If you want credit you should submit articles to article directories. However, you don't get paid for those articles. Other people will use your articles on their website or blog and give you credit. There is usually a link back to your website or blog at the bottom of the article.

You submit articles in hopes that someone will use them on their site so people will click on the link at the bottom of the article and visit your site. The benefit to you is traffic to your site. If you are selling something or have advertising on your site that someone can click on to earn you money then people viewing the articles will see what you have to offer.

4) Taking Online Surveys

You won't make a ton of money filling out surveys but it is an easy way to make some quick cash. Companies will pay you to fill out brief surveys or try their products. Usually you will make between $5 and $10 per survey.

These companies want to find out what you like and don't like. They use this information or statistics and to help the companies they work for find out who they should market their products or services to.

It doesn't cost anything to sign up to fill out surveys but make sure you are using reputable companies.

You should set up a separate email account just for taking surveys to help you keep your personal email from getting mixed up with the survey email.

5) Washing, Waxing, or Car Detailing

This is a great way for high school teens or college students to make money. You could even advertise with local businesses and shine their cars and trucks in the parking lot while they work.

These are just a few ways to make money as a tween, teen or even for a stay-at-home Mom.
