8 Ways to Eliminate Stress While Managing Your Home Business

By: Rhonda White

Maybe your normal. You get overwhelmed with maintaining all the responsibilities of your family and home. To add to that, you've made a commitment to pursue your online business. Your things-to-do list becomes endless. Before long, you find yourself muddled with what to do next. You feel tired, ready to give up, and perhaps, you even go as far as locking yourself in the bathroom to hide from your family while you have a mental meltdown.

Try these methods to eliminate stress while managing your home business:

1. Organize your home.

Make a quick assessment of how things are running at home. You'll not be able to focus well on simple business tasks if you have 10 loads of laundry that need to be done. See what you can do to set a daily schedule to accomplish household chores. You need not take several hours a day to clean if you decide to focus on one particular area in your house each day. By the weekend, you can have most household chores completed and take some time to pursue some fun hobbies.

2. Reevaluate your priorities.

Fitting everything you absolutely must to do in a 24-hour period will require evaluating your priorities. If you do the most important task first, you'll at least have accomplished the most important task that needed to be done by the end of the day. Don't get overwhelmed by placing 100 projects on your list. It's important to list only a reasonable amount of tasks that can actually be done. Place the first 3 important tasks first. Then, jot some extra smaller tasks at the bottom to be done (if) you get that far. You'll feel like a "winner" once you've accomplished your first three tasks and like an "angel" when you've accomplished some of your smaller tasks as well.

3. Reevaluate your business plan.

Your business plan need not be complicated. Make a simple one-page version to keep by your desk and review it often. Are you getting side-tracked from your main goals?

My one-page business plan consists of the following:

*My Income Plan

What resources am I going to draw income from? If you have too many on your list, try downsizing and focusing on just a few resources until you are ready or willing to outsource some of your work. You'll easily become overwhelmed and exhausted trying to handle too much on your own.

*My Marketing Plan

You better have one. Talent can only get you so far. Take time to start with some affordable advertising methods. Don't start off clueless. Invest your time in learning some valuable online and offline marketing methods. Test a few methods out and see which ones work best for your business.

*My Action Plan

This is simple. Decide what needs to be done exactly, and decide which days are best to accomplish each of these tasks. Plan some of your larger tasks at peak hours (or days) when you have the most energy.

4. Eliminate time wasters and unnecessary tasks.

Checking your email each hour can really dwindle your time away. Unless you're in the middle of a business negotiation or some business that requires immediate attending to, limit checking your email to only 3 or 4 times a day at the most.

If you have extra business projects that consume your time each week and you're seeing no beneficial results from your efforts, there's nothing wrong with eliminating it from your business. End of story. And more time for you!

5. Outsource those dreadful tasks.

There's been a lot of buzz lately about outsourcing. The reason it's gained so much popularity is because it allows the work at home entrepreneur to accomplish more by eliminating the small tasks that someone else can attend to.

If you're getting overwhelmed with small tedious tasks that someone else can actually handle, consider outsourcing. There are numerous virtual assistants online ready to help.

6. Take some time off.

Don't forget to take some time off. In the real work world, employers give their employees breaks. It's the legal thing to do. Yet, as self-employed beings...we tend to overwork ourselves. We forget about the necessary little breaks and taking days off from work. You mentally refresh yourself with the ability to accomplish even more when you are rested, and you'll easily keep yourself from becoming stressed.

7. Get Enough Sleep.

This sort of reaffirms the previous point about getting enough rest. Our bodies need enough sleep to function properly. If you find yourself having difficulty being creative in your business, this is usually a result from lack of sleep. One easily becomes stressed when they're tired and exhausted. Schedule your sleep time as if it were a matter of business.

8. Reward yourself (for the small accomplishments.)

As kids, we loved rewards. As adults, we haven't outgrown this delight. Don't wait until you've made your first thousand dollars online to reward yourself. Reward yourself for every little accomplishment you make. This positive
action will have positive results on your home business. You'll feel that you really are accomplishing worthwhile achievements. You'll be less likely to feel stressed while your rewarding yourself with your favorite indulgence.

If you've already been feeling stressed with your home business, jot down the six tips above and see what changes you can make today. Eliminating stress will improve your health, well-being and mental alertness. Managing your home business will be more enjoyable too.
