When you think of real estate you think "pretty" thoughts. Hefty commission checks. Grateful clients. Sweeping your arms like Vanna White as you show your real estate clients a nice home. Selling your listing in less than a week, in a tough market, at above asking price. Of course, real estate agents know that the real estate industry isn't packed with cotton candy goodness. There can be moments where things click, everything falls into place. And all is right with the world. But more often than not, real estate agents find that trudging through to find clients and then work with those clients is a whole 'nother ball game! Clients can be needy. Clients can be demanding. Clients can be clueless. Clients can be ruthless. Depending on the type of client, you might find yourself doing things you never thought about when you first envisioned yourself in the real estate industry. But this is reality. And reality can get a bit messy. There are real estate agents who have rolled up their sleeves and dug right into the muck. Some more literally than others. But they did what it took to get the offer, to stop the transaction from being derailed and to ensure the transaction closed. So what have real estate agents done? Agents have scooped pet poop in a clients' backyards. They have buried dead animals before showing a property. They have weeded front landscapes and sweeped sidewalks and driveways. Real estate agents have helped clients move extra belongings into storage spaces and pitched in to clean a home before an Open House. Yep, real estate agents have had to clean some toilets here and there...all in the name of superior service (and, perhaps, necessity). Sure, you can pay someone else to do all of these things and more. And sometimes it's nice to pay someone to do the icky stuff. But it's not always realistic. You see a pile of excrement on the living room floor and some terrific prospects are coming any minute to see the home. There's no time to hand off clean-up duty to anyone else. When time is of the essence, you just dive right in and do it. But that's what providing terrific real estate service to your clients is all about.
