Thanksgiving has come and gone, and now it is time to shop. It’s called “Black Friday”. It’s when thousands of people flock to their favorite shopping malls and take advantage of the sales. Trust me, it is not called Black Friday because it is dark outside when the sales begin. It can turn into a nightmare. If you don’t like to be in big crowds or if you have anger problems, it is best for you to go at a different time. I heard a very disturbing story late in the afternoon as I was finishing up my “Black Friday” shopping. I was standing in line at the Dollar Store and two women were talking. One said that her seven year old niece had been rammed with a shopping cart by a lady telling her friend, angrily, “I will show you how to get through these crowds”. Now, I wasn’t there, but it sounded like this lady saw that there was a little girl in front of her and she had purposely rammed into her with that cart. There was no reason for this girl, or anyone else for that matter, to be hurt! When the busiest shopping day of the year rolls around, there are a few things you should try to keep in mind. Get plenty of sleep We all know that if you don’t get plenty of rest, you tend to be grumpy in the morning. The day after Thanksgiving is no time to be that way. There are a lot of people on the road and in the stores. Tempers are sure to flare. It’s always best if you are able to control yours! Plan ahead The night before, after you have filled up on your Turkey and cranberry sauce, sit down with the sale ads and plan your shopping day. Decide what will go the quickest and plan on starting at that store. This is where a lot of people will be and they will want the same thing. This is also why it is important to get plenty of sleep. You do have to be aggressive if you want to get that item, but you also need to know when to walk away. You certainly don’t want to end up visiting with the police. Be Polite When you are trying to get to a different part of the store and you are in a crowded area, say “Excuse Me”. If you accidentally run into someone, tell that that you are sorry. Manners are the key to getting through this day without an incident. Most people have a hard time being angry at a person who has just said “Oh, I am so sorry I bumped into you”. I am one of those people who get up at 4:00 a.m. on the day after Thanksgiving. I love it and I look forward to it every year. I have had a few incidents, but I feel that I have learned how to avoid them. The most important thing to remember is to have patience. Good Luck, and have a Merry Christmas!
