"So you watch yourself about complaining, Sister. What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is to change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it. Don't complain." Maya Angelou This advice given to the small girl by her storekeeper grandmother helped form her character. It became a fiber of her being and strength of her will. Because of the teaching moments from her youth and the ability to see truth when it was presented, Maya Angelou has become a beloved leader of many people throughout the world. She has represented to me a wise woman. Her ability to see the life lesson in any situation, no matter how intolerable it may seem to others, reminds me to do the same. She leads us to change the things that are unfair or unjust, not just complain about them. How many of us in this political arena feel free to criticize the government or specific leaders because they do not always agree with our views? It is easy to comment or point out the real or perceived flaws of others. It is easy to pass judgment, but not easy to work for other solutions. When you criticize something then you should be willing to work for an improved alternative. I encourage you to be part of the solution for a better world for all of us.
