Creating a Sophisticated Pink Home Office

By: Jessica Ackerman

When people think of the color pink, it often brings to mind images of little girls' bedrooms and bright cotton candy. For the professional woman who works from home, however, the color pink can take on an entirely different meaning. Instead of frivolous and whimsical, pink can become a sophisticated and classy. Use the tips below to get you started on decorating your own pink retreat.

The Walls
The shade of pink that you select is going to make all the difference when it comes to the sophistication of your home office. Bright, bold pinks are going to seem more carefree than a subdued pale pink. If you are in a business where you need creativity and fun to create your artwork or plan your parties, a brighter pink would be just fine. However, for a more sophisticated look, choose a pastel with a warm undertone. Even the palest of pinks can make a big impact once it is on the office walls. Choose a color that calms you and helps you focus on the task at hand. The best way to select the right shade is to purchase a few small paint samples and try them out on the walls. This will give you a better idea of what each shade will look like in the room.

The Furniture and Textiles
Let the sophistication of pink extend beyond just the walls and embrace it in the rest of the room's decor, as well. Cherry wood or white office furniture will provide a lovely accent to the pale pink of the walls. Upholstered chairs would do best with floral or patterned fabric that contains the same pink color. Often times, large cabbage rose print fabrics contain a variety of shades of pink that would work well with the home office wall color. Plaids, brocades, and ginghams are also fine fabric choices, especially if you are going for a shabby chic decor. For a classic or contemporary look, mix in pale gray and white. Be sure that the fabric used on the upholstered furniture coordinates with the fabric curtains, as well.

Flooring
While you probably will not select pink carpeting for your home office floors, you can add area rugs with shades of pink in them to help tie the theme together. Even a small rug with the pink color in can really make a difference in connecting the look and feel of the office. It may take awhile to find just the right rug, but once you have found it, it will create a beautiful accent in the room.

Accessories and Accents
Accessories also enhance the sophistication of the pink home office. Cut flowers, or even realistic looking artificial blooms, can be the perfect way to tie everything together. Have fun searching for those accent pieces that will help to transform your office into a stunning space. Beautiful wall mirrors, framed art, elegant desk sets, frames for favorite photos, book ends, lamps and lampshades all provide opportunities to capture your sophisticated style.
