Developing a Professional Support Circle CAN Change Your Life & Bring You Balance & Harmony

By: Melissa Vokoun

Time has become our fiercest enemy – and the only way to "beat the clock" is to develop a strong support circle to help us maximize our time and balance our lives. It doesn't matter whether you are a businessman or a work-from-home mom trying to juggle the demands of career and family, there are NOT enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that demands to get done. If there were, emerging professionals – virtual assistants, life coaches, home and business organizers, even personal trainers would not be the fastest growing segment in newly-formed businesses in the last 5 years in this country. More and more successful, ambitious, energetic professionals are realizing that by employing this type of "support circle" they MAKE more time to enjoy life and make peace with the accelerating passage of time.

Can these practitioners help you find more time in the day to accomplish the tasks that ONLY you can do? The answer is YES! For those of us who grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, it was the professional child care provider and the daycare centers that were the "revolutionary" new concepts of their time. Born in 1955 – one of 4 children, I remember only a few times that my parents actually traveled or socialized without us and "hired" someone to care for us. Unless you were an extremely wealthy family, it was grandparents, aunts and uncles, or trusted neighbors that were called upon to care for children in our neighborhood.

As our society moved to the two-family income, in-home child care and daycare centers became commonplace. The same evolution of virtual assistants, life and professional coaches, home and office organizers and other emerging service providers is now occurring.

These professional assistants are no longer seen as luxuries. Those who have embraced the concept of utilizing these services have taken a step back to evaluate how to manage and optimize their time. If at the end of the day we can feel good about our professional accomplishments while honoring the relationships that are fundamental to our life, then whatever the costs of building this professional support circle is well worth the cost.

I find more and more of those whom I network with are more interested in their overall happiness than accumulating more money, larger homes, or staying on the fast-track in the corporate world. In many cases the developing and nurturing of a "professional support circle" allows them to achieve more financial rewards than they ever dreamed of without sacrificing a fulfilling family life.

When a client reports they can spend an extra few hours a week with their family rather than catching up on paperwork or reconciling their checkbook – or they recount how their life coach recommended they find a virtual assistant, a professional organizer, or financial planner allowing them to focus on their professional passion, or they proudly talk about the organizational system they initiated to get their life in order, I cheer their acceptance of developing a support circle that is contributing to their professional and personal happiness.

If you are feeling frustrated or out-of-time, if you are always trying to play catch-up on both business and personal deadlines, if you are neglecting time with family and friends, if you are working harder but not realizing financial or personal benefits of your dedication, NOW is the time to invest in your own professional support circle. This is time spent and money invested that you will never regret!
