Do You Hate to Network Offline?

By: Corrie Petersen

Networking for your business is very important. We all have things that we hate to do in business, but they must be done in order to grow. Some of these things we can outsource, while others we must do ourselves.

Offline networking is one of those things that I hate to do. I’m bashful to say the least. Once I get to know a person, I talk all the time, but get me in a room full of people I don’t know and I freeze.

I know how important networking is, but I just can’t bring myself to do it offline. So what does that leave me with? Online marketing is the way to go for me. With online marketing, I don’t have to look at people, I don’t have to shake hands with them, and I don’t have to look them in the eye when I don’t have anything to say or I don’t know the answer.

So for a bashful person, online networking is the way to go. If you don’t know the answer, you can take a minute or two and research the answer. The other thing you can do is apologize and tell them you don’t understand or you don’t have the answer. If you think about it, it’s so much easier to say those words when you type rather than face to face.

The best thing about networking online is it’s all so easy going and unplanned. There are so many different networks you can join. Social networks are the in thing right now and there are so many different ones that you can join. Two of the most popular social networks right now are Twitter.com and Facebook.com. Joining those two networks will be a good thing for your business.

Once you join those networks, learning to use them can be a challenge. Just don’t give up. Asking questions and showing people you want to learn is a great way to start your networking experience. Once you start understanding how to use the network, make sure you help others that are learning as well. You should also make good quality posts that others will enjoy reading. Posting your articles is also a great way to network.

If people post links to their blogs, make sure you comment on their posts. If they post articles, make sure you comment on them as well. You need to make sure you are active on the networks so that people will see what you are doing. They will also begin to build trust with you.

Whatever you do during your networking time online, you need to make the most of it. You need to make sure you that you don’t sign up for too many networks. You don’t want to feel overwhelmed and spend way to much time networking. This will cause you to not have time to spend on working your business.

Now you know why networking is important and how to do it correctly, you should get started right away. Starting at the beginning of the week is a good way to do it. I recommend starting out with two networks at first. Also, try spending 30 minutes a day for five days networking. Once you get the hang of it, you can add a few more networks and spend a little more time doing it each day.
