Do You Have Writer’s Block?

By: Corrie Petersen

When you write articles for your business, writer’s block can get the best of you. It can happen at the worst time. It can also be hard to get through writer’s block. This article will give you some ways to get through it and hopefully prevent it from happening again.

• Directories

Go to your favorite article directory and look at the categories they offer. Click on the categories that you like to write about and look at the articles. Start out by looking at the titles and see if they spark ideas. If that doesn’t work, click on articles that are of interest and start reading it. Write down any ideas or topics that come to mind. Do some brainstorming and see if any of the ideas you come up with spark ideas for more.

• Survey

Go to the social networking sites or message boards you are apart of and ask about topics of interest to those that are on those sites. You can also create a survey and ask people to fill it out. Questions you might ask are below.

a. What types of articles do you read online?
b. What would you like to know about ___________?
c. How could you improve _____________?

Base these off of the things you like to write about. For instance, if you write about direct sales you could ask what people would like to know about direct sales.

• Magazines

Read magazines that pertain to what you write about. Brainstorm on ideas that come to mind from the articles that you read in the magazines. Come up with advantages and disadvantages that come to mind with these ideas. You can also write about common mistakes that happen with these ideas. When you use these three types of articles you will have three different articles for each topic.

• Questions

Think about your target market and think about the questions that they may have regarding business. For example if you are in direct sales, ask yourself how a person in direct sales can advertise their business and then brainstorm on the tips you can give. Ask yourself how a person in direct sales can get their product noticed offline and then brainstorm on the tips you can give.

• Q & A

Go directly to your target market and ask them what questions they have. Ask them what problems they face with their business, ask them what areas they need more help with. Once you gather these questions, write an article as a Q & A. Type the question and then write your detailed answer. If you don’t have enough details to be one article, include two or three questions and detailed answers of your own. Make sure the questions are related in some way.

These five suggestions are just a few of the many ways you can come up with ideas for articles. Writer’s block is a horrible thing for an author to have and it’s important that you get over it as quickly as possible. Try different ways and when you find something that works, make sure you remember that so if your writer’s block comes back, you will know how to get over it quickly.
