Don't Throw Away Old Business Cards, Make Good Use of Them Instead!

By: Angie Aldridge

So many of us have done it...joined a new company, began our own business, took on a new position at work, etc. The next thing we might do to help promote our new venture is to get some business cards! However, sometimes things happen and we might end up changing companies, getting a new logo to promote, have a new website and/or email address, or even quit the business. What do we do with the hundreds, sometimes thousands of old business cards we are stuck with?

Below are some ideas you may find useful to "recycle" your outdated business cards:

Lists for the grocery store, library, daily to-do, etc.

Bookmarks--Perfect to use to keep your place in a book while you take a break.

Gift Tags--Put a sticker or label over the printed side or turn them over and tape onto gift package.

Mailing Labels--Turn them over, write name and address, then tape onto package.

Luggage Tags

ID Tags--Tape to CD cases, books, boxes, etc. to identify them as yours.

Backing for your photos if you scrapbook.

Write out your name and address, any medical conditions or allergies, important phone numbers, etc, and keep in your wallet in case of an emergency--they fit perfectly.

Use them to enter contests, drawings, and giveaways.

Appointment Cards--Perfect for jotting down appointments so you don't forget!

Phone Number/Address Exchanges--How many times have you been at the store, library, or the playground and you meet someone and want to exchange your address, phone number, or email address?

Directions in the Car--How many times have you found yourself lost and you have to call someone for directions? These are perfect to write quick notes on.

Flashcards for your kids or yourself. You could use them for anything you want to memorize.

Coloring/Drawing/Writing--Perfect to give your little ones while in the car, at an appointment, or at a restaurant so they can doodle, color, or practice their writing.

Play Credit Cards--You could even write a "play" credit card company name on the blank side, write your child's name and laminate it for when they play "store". Instantly makes a great play credit card or even a library card.

Pretend Mail Postcards--Kids love to decorate things and draw pictures. They could even apply stickers and voila--instant play postcards they can mail to each other or tuck away in their wallets/purses.

Scraper/Pusher/Counter Shovel--Clean up spilled sugar, spices or other fine powders spilled on the counter by using the flat surface to "scrape" into a pile, into a bowl, or into the garbage.

Labels for hanging file folders. Turned sideways, they are just the right width. Cut to desired size and tape or glue on folder.

Clean the spaces between the keys on your keyboard or in the tracks of your windowsills.

Hope these are helpful to you.
