Many times we are afraid to say what we need for fear of looking selfish. Deciding what we need or want, making it known, and satisfying that need is a part of self-care. Since the new-year is upon us, it is the perfect time to put some thought into this. What are the special things you need or want in your life? Think of this as a New Year's resolution. What is lacking in your life that would give you a ton of joy if you had it? Maybe it is more than one thing. It could be ten - or more! It could be spiritual, physical, emotional, or even material. What have you been longing for that would bring you peace of mind, put a smile on your face, or melt your heart? List these things and form an intent to satisfy the need or want. You deserve to treat yourself! It is what I call 'responsible selfishness'. If you would like to share your list feel free to place a comment at the end of this ezine. Watch what happens when you not only commit to yourself, but when you make it public to the rest of the world! Getting Back on Track It was refreshing to see Arizonians staying physically active during the holidays. The gym was packed and people where out running, biking, and hiking. The park was full of families, and teens were using their time off to congregate in the fitness centers. There is a bit of pride in knowing that you are able to stay on your program even during the holidays. However, it is very common to fall off the wagon with all the chaos, travel, and schedule disruptions. It is nothing to beat yourself up about. I caution you, though, to not let it drag on. It does not take long for complacency to set in. Then you can really get stuck in a rut. What do you need to do to get back on track? Try something new to get you excited and motivated. Have you ever worked out with a partner? If not, give it a try. How about changing your workout routine to something a little more exciting? Do you have way too much holiday junk food left in the house? If so, it is time to get rid of it! Clean out the cupboards and restock with healthy, nutritious food. If you need assistance or ideas in this area drop me an email. The longer you procrastinate getting back on track, the harder it will be. Sometimes it just takes one small step and everything else begins to flow.
