Like me, I’m sure you’ve read the ads that say “free signup”. Often these ads go on to say that the ad poster has already signed up 10,000 people and the ad poster only started themselves 3 days ago. What these ads don’t mention is that no one is earning money as nothing is being bought and sold. There is only one way to make money in business, something must be bought and sold. Bakeries make money selling bread. Real estate agents make money selling houses. Hair stylists make money offering hair cuts and colorings. A product or service must be bought and sold in order for money to be made. In most direct sales companies, a kit is purchased by the new distributor. This kit contains sales materials, samples and products. The new distributor is now able to use the products and share their own testimonial about the quality of these products or services. They also have catalogs and samples to offer to potential customers. The new distributor will make money when they sell the products or services to others and when they develop a team. In the case of the free sign up, so much emphasis is put on signing people up for free, that you end up with the 10,000 people in your downline and not one of them has made a dime, as nothing is being bought or sold. I’ve found something else over the years. While we all appreciate free, free in direct sales seems to attract those who also don’t wish to know about or use the products being offered. They are joining based on the ad claiming they too can have 10,000 in their downline. There is no interest in the company or the products. Since the original ad spoke of free, the new consultant does not wish to spend money. They want it all for free. I’ve often heard these new consultants say they’ll buy a product after they earn money. However, like a domino effect, if no one ever buys, no one makes money and so after a short period of time, companies begin removing consultants based on inactivity and lack of product purchases. If you are considering joining a free signup company, please consider what you’ll be doing to make money after signing up.
