Fun Hotdog Recipes for Kids

By: Melissa Pedersen

Hot dogs are on almost every child's list of favorite foods. But when you want to put an even bigger smile on your kids' faces, try one of these fun hotdog recipes instead.

Octopus Dogs

6 hot dogs
6 hot dog buns
1 can chili

Starting about 1" from one end of a hot dog, make a slit in the hot dog that goes vertically to the other end. Now turn a quarter turn and make another slit. Keep making slits until you've made eight "legs" for the hot dog. Boil the hot dog, and it will come out looking like an octopus. Put chili on an opened hot dog bun. Place the hot dog with the head up and the legs spread out over the chili.

Potato Pups

8 hot dogs
2 cups mashed potatoes
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Split the hot dogs the long way, but not quite all the way through. Fill the split opening with mashed potatoes mixed with dry mustard. Sprinkle the top with paprika.

Bake in the over at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes or until heated through and slightly browned on top. You can also top it with some grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese.

Snake Hot Dogs

1 hot dog
1 hot dog bun

Take the hot dog and make horizontal slits that go a little more than halfway through the hot dog down half the length of the hot dog. For the other half of the hot dog do the same thing but make the slits on the opposite side. When you boil or microwave the hot dog, it will twist like a snake.

Banana Hot Dog Sandwich

1 hot dog bun
1/2 banana
2 tablespoon peanut butter;

Toast the hot dog bun. Spread peanut butter on hot dog bun and add the banana.

Top Dog

8 hot dogs
4 slices American Cheese, each cut into 6 strips
1 can Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls (8oz)

Slit hot dogs to within 1/2" of ends. Insert 3 strips cheese in each slit.

Separate the dough into 8 triangles. Wrap the dough over the weiner, keeping the cheese side up.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, cheese side up. Bake at 375 degrees F. for
12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
