Start by capturing the plan on paper. Couples can look it over together, and come up with ideas that appeal to both of them before heading out to purchase items or browsing the web for items. Get a feel for the project, and make an outline of items that will be needed and those wanted items that are affordable. Once the project looks great on paper, it can be adapted into the budget and the daily planner. Do the project in layers. Prioritize the project into a reasonable layer of smaller projects. For example, if the plan is to get rid of the existing wallpaper, paint, add molding/trim, hang new wall art and other accessories, replace the furniture, and find new flooring, start at the bottom and remove the wallpaper this weekend, then paint next weekend. During each successive weekend (or however the schedule permits) add the flooring (protect it if necessary), replace the decor, then haul out the old furniture as the new pieces are purchased. Add the finishing touches, and enjoy the finished project. This allows time to keep up with the things that matter, such as working, spending time with friends and family during the week, and so on. Ask for help. There is no unwritten rule that says that the homeowner is forced to do as much of the remodeling or redecorating as possible. Friends and family members can be recruited as helpers for various projects, as long as they are physically capable of doing the work effectively and efficiently. It can be a great way to save time and still spend quality time with them as well. If no one is available, consider hiring someone to help if necessary. Be very selective when allowing a stranger into the home, and make sure that hired help has the proper credentials. Shop online. The Internet becomes more convenient with each year, and improvements to shopping from home are quickly replacing having to fight traffic and crowds at traditional stores. A lot of traditional stores now have online counterparts for placing orders, and most add a large selection of items that are only available for purchase online. Shipping is normally not much higher than the cost of driving to the store, by the time gas, wear and tear, and other factors are considered. This saves time and money. Changing home decor does not have to be an all-in-one-day project. It can take weeks, or even months, to complete, especially for those who have very hectic schedules already. Prioritize the project, and make sure that each step is well planned before beginning that particular step. Have what is needed when it is needed, and everything will go much more smoothly and efficiently.
