Your customers: these are the people you’re trying to appeal to. They are the lifeblood of your business, and without them you won’t be able to survive. They are who you’re appealing to. Each time you get anything printed for marketing, these are the people you need to be thinking of. Most businesses are aware of that much, but it isn’t always clear exactly how you get to know your customers, and the most obvious answer is often the one most overlooked. Simply ask them about who they are. Tell them directly you want to know more. You want to know what things they like and don’t like and you want to make sure your business is providing for them as best as you possibly can. Yes, you can ask them directly, and the results are often much better than a lot of companies realize. You can go about asking them in a variety of different ways. If you have a series of shorter questions to ask why not use postcard printing to create a number of short, to the point question for them to answer. Have a list of ten multiple-choice questions and ask them to answer them and send them back to you so you can better serve their needs. If you want longer answers why not have one postcard sent out each month with a single question and room for them to give a lengthier answer about. Ask them for ways to improve your performance or anything they can think of to make the experience for them better. Remember to that just because you’re using postcard printing, you can make use of the internet as well for this. Send those same postcards, but put a link on them asking people to log in and offer advice for improving your business. In-store interviews can also work if you’re able to get someone’s attention. Right after making a purchase is when people are going to be most likely to have things to mention to you because it’s fresh in their minds. Phone interviews can also be effective for getting information from people, though a phone call can be a little more intrusive, so be careful about who you target with a method like this. You might instead ask for people to sign an agreement ahead of time saying they’re willing to get your call before actually calling them. Most people are more willing to give their opinion than a lot of companies are aware of. You can ask someone directly about what they think and odds are good you’ll get some very valuable responses for your time. All it takes is the willingness to ask them. If you can’t do that, than you can’t expect to hear what they have to say.
