Many people do not set goals. There are many reasons for this. Fear is one reason. Fear of not accomplishing the goal. Another reason is lack of motivation. Another is that once the goal is set, they have no idea how to get started. I could go on and on about the reasons that people do not have goals in their life. I am here to tell you that having a basic plan will a person through all of the reasons that I listed above. A plan is a written set of steps and strategies that outlines how you will accomplish your goal. A plan removes the fear because all you do is follow the steps, so there is no reason to not accomplish your goal. With this plan you know how to begin and how to keep moving forward. This removes any lack of motivation because if you really want your goal enough - you will work your plan! The problem is that many people do not know how to plan. They do not think in logical sequence, they do not see the big picture, and they do not break that big picture into smaller steps. We spend a lot of time in this company working with small business owners. Small business owners are a perfect example of those who do not have a plan. Sorry but it's true. Many small business owners do not have a business plan. They do not even know where to go to obtain that type of assistance. When we begin working with them they gradually begin to see the big picture of their business and all of the components that need to be addressed. Once we plan out a series of steps for them they begin to understand how to find clients, how to structure their internal processes, and exactly what tasks they should be doing each and every day. Since this plan is put into the form of a written document, they always have something to refer back to. It is the same with our wellness clients. They do not know where to begin with fitness. All they know is that is has something to do with nutrition and exercise. Ok, well, that is the big picture for sure. But the details are so important - what type of food? How often to eat? How much to eat? Which exercises? How often to exercise? All these are steps that go into their plan. You can create a plan for anything in your life, any goal that you want to accomplish. The plan itself helps you to stay motivated because then you can see your goal much more clearly. At BodyLife Dynamics we have tools, templates, worksheets, resources and a lifetime of experience to help you develop your plan. Let me know what goals you have that you have not been able to achieve - and I guarantee that we can help you set up a step-by-step plan. Measurable Goals Accomplishing goals takes energy - mental and physical energy. One way to keep the energy high and to stay motivated is by measuring your progress. I will use fitness as an example. We work with a number of companies and individuals regarding physical wellness. No matter who they are, we measure their progress. For fitness this means tracking body fat, clothing size, the ability to lift heavier weight, run longer on the treadmill, and reducing employee sick days. All of these things are measurements that a person or company is getting closer to their final goal. Even small business owners have ways to measure their progress. Their measurements are in the form of increased revenue, additional clients, client feedback, higher productivity, employee retention. No matter what plan you have in place there must be a way to measure your progress on a regular basis. One final note about goals and measurements - be sure you have the right people, person, or company helping you accomplish your goals. It is always wise to have some assistance because someone else will hold you accountable. They will push you harder than you will push yourself. But make sure they are qualified! So check out credentials, references, and other forms of credibility. Then plan on a long term relationship! Make this is your year to step out of your comfort zone.
