How to Start Advertising Offline

By: Corrie Petersen

When you first start your business, whether it’s an online or offline business, you need to advertise offline. Not everyone will go online to find you so you need to find ways to promote offline.

Some people may think offline advertising is expensive. In this article I will show you five ways to advertise your business with very little or no money at all.

1. Business cards

You can get business cards from VistaPrint.com for under $6. When you make your cards, create them as an ad. Make sure you list your name and website or e-mail.

When you get your cards, you need to hand them out to people every where you go. You also need to leave them in different places. You can leave them on the table at restaurants you visit, on the tables in waiting rooms, at the library, in the envelope with your bill payment, and many other places. Just brainstorm for ideas.

2. Flyers

Creating flyers can be expensive if you let it. If you want to create a flyer to advertise, create it yourself. That will save you a lot of money. When you create them, you can put 2-4 ads on a sheet and then cut them out. Another way to save money when you make flyers is to use black ink instead of color. When you are ready to print out your flyers, call around for prices. You can call places like OfficeMax, Kinko’s, or Staples. Basically any office supply store. You might also try your public library. You might be surprised at the fee the library will charge.

3. Catalogs and brochures

If you are a part of a direct sales company and your company has free or low cost catalogs and/or brochures, you should get them. Make sure you put your contact information on them and leave them in waiting rooms. You could deliver them to past customers or to businesses to leave in the breakroom.

4. Labels

Labels are a great way to get your website or business noticed by every person that handles your envelope. You can go to VistaPrint.com to get your labels or you can make them yourself. All you have to do is go to the office supply store or even Walmart and pick up a box of labels. On the box you will see a number that will be in your Microsoft Word program on the computer. Go to Word and then the label section and look for that brand and number. Once you find it you are ready to make them. If you don’t have a website, make sure you list a way for them to find you. If you can’t do labels, that’s ok. Hand write your information in the top left corner.

5. Envelopes

Any time you send an envelope through the mail, you should hand write a note in the open area below your label. You can mention a special or a certain product and then list your website. You will need to write this in a bright colored pen or highlight it after you write it out and it dry’s.

Your envelope could go through the hands of a half dozen or more people by the time it reaches its final destination. That could be six or more customers or clients. You just never know!

Now you have five ways to get your business noticed offline and won’t have to spend a lot of money in the process.

Whatever you do, make sure you always have your cards, flyers, catalogs, and brochures with you at all times. You never know who you will run into or meet. When it comes to your mail, every piece that leaves your home needs to have your website or business information on it.
