Making Time for You

By: Amy Royce

In order for us as women to keep our sanity, we have to learn to make time for ourselves. We live in a busy world and we want to “Do it All”, but it is important to take care of us, as well as our families. In this article, I will give you some tips on how to slow down and pamper yourself.

1. Plan a Girls Night Out

At least once a month, my friends and I get together for about 5 hours. We don’t necessarily “go out”. Usually, we pick a house and just hang out. We watch a movie or just talk. No kids or husbands…just the girls! When you take a “time out” from your life, it helps you to see things clearer, and you will feel like you can handle the next day with ease.

2. Exercise

Now, I know what you are thinking. “Exercise is Work”, but trust me on this one. If you take even 15-30 minutes and go to the gym, hop on a treadmill and listen to music on your head phones, you will feel so much better when you are done. Exercise improves how well your body can pump blood to your brain, helping it perform better. It also helps relieve feelings of depression by increasing blood flow and improving how your brain handles the chemicals that are responsible for what kind of mood you are in.

3. Get a Manicure

Often times, we are so busy making sure our families look good, we forget about ourselves. Just having a simple French manicure done will make you feel so good about yourself you will wonder why you didn’t get it done sooner.

OK. Now you are probably wondering how you can find the time to do all of that.

4. Make a schedule

Share it with your family and stick to it. Tell them that you love them dearly, but that you need some time for you. I’m sure they will understand, and they probably feel that you need that as well. Start off by doing the things that absolutely have to get done first. Try to set a time frame for each task leaving the afternoon completely open for you. If you can’t get your entire list done, remember that you can delegate some of it. Ask your husband to pick up the kids. Ask the kids to do the dishes. When it is time for YOU, don’t think about work or the house. Focus only on YOUR needs and wants. You deserve this!

It’s OK to think about yourself once in a while. Try some of these tips I have mentioned and you will have more energy and ambition for the rest of the daily things in your life. Remember…you are an amazing person and you are worth it!
