Making the Text Perfect for Print Flyers

By: Colleen Davis

Have you optimized everything there is to it in your flyer layout? Is your text content really ready enough for the flyer printer? If you are still a bit afraid that you might botch up the text for the flyer printer, chances are good that your fear is merited. The text content for print flyers must always be as perfect as it can be because flyers only have one shot at communicating their message. Lose that five seconds and you will see your custom flyers travel directly to the trash bin.

If you want to know how to make that perfect kind of text for flyer printing, then let me discuss with you the basics that you need to know. There are 5 concepts that will help make your text content really worthy and effective for flyer printing.

1. Clean and clear formatting – First off, you will need clean and clear formatting for your text content to make them effective in your color flyers. Most flyer readers don’t have time to figure out the design of text content. They just want to read information as clearly and as simple as possible. So it is best to just stick to simple typefaces and a paragraph or column format for the flyers. The simpler the formatting is, the easier it is to understand the text in your custom flyers.

2. Easily understandable fonts - Next, you will have to choose a proper font style for your text. In this regard you have plenty of great options. Besides the extensive collection of fonts that your design software already has, there are also thousands of others out their available for free on the Internet. Just make sure that your choice is well made. The font styles must be simple, just like headline fonts. This makes the text easily recognizable and readable. Most flyer readers like it that way.

Avoid using those eccentric and creative fonts since you’ll waste a lot of time and formatting energy just to fit them good into your flyer designs.

3. Contrasting font colors – For the flyer text to come out within your designs, it is best to have a set color prepared for them. Depending on the theme of your custom flyers, a certain color should be more appropriate than the rest for those text. A good principle in dealing with this is to just use the opposite but thematic color for your flyers. So if your flyer is white, black text is best. If your flyer is black, then lighter colors are more appropriate. The more contrasting your flyer text color is, the more visible they will be to readers.

4. Proper blending effects – You might also want to add some more special blending effects to your text to make them look more integrated into the flyer designs. This is done through special blending filters that many desktop publishing applications can offer. Adding text shadows for example, and even 3D effects into the text can enhance the look and readability of your flyer text. Of course make sure that this sits in well with your overall design.

5. Perfect content style – Finally of course, never forget to pay attention to your text content style. No amount of great formatting and text design can replace a text that is appealing to readers. So make sure that you write your text in the best style possible for your target readers. If they need a friendly style, deliver that friendly style for advertising. If they need an authoritative and professional style to trust your content, give that style to them. The more perfect your content style is, the better your text will be for custom flyers.

Great! Now you know how to make the text perfect for flyer printing. Good luck!
