Lately my networking efforts have been very fruitful in getting referrals, finding new business and gaining support. Wow! I feel lucky because of the great people I am meeting and staying in touch with. Since I have been purposely putting myself out there more frequently, it just keeps getting better. If you have a home-based business, get out of the house to meet new contacts. This strategy works particularly well if you are in a home party plan or direct selling business because you need to be constantly seeking new customers. I have heard that 70% of a home party plan business should be from new business each year. Networking is one way we can all create our own luck. Read on to see how to foster your network and make your own luck in March! I have always valued my network and nurtured my connections. Lately, I have been even more intentional with my networking process. One of my immunity tactics to stay 'up' in a 'down' economy is to attend 2-4 networking events monthly to meet new, interesting, like-minded people. At a recent event, the topic was on 'Networking'. We discussed how our network is comprised of people who serve different purposes and multiple roles. Your contacts can perform in 'STARR' roles: S – Strategists T – Translators A – Alliances R - Role Models/Mentors R - Referrals Here is one sales strategy that will help you to leverage your networking contacts, fill different roles, and turn them into your lucky Pot of Gold! Collect Business Cards - What do most people actually do with these cards, anyway? Most of the cards I give out, either I initiate the next step or I typically don't hear from the person again. Some people collect business cards like post cards from trips - and do absolutely nothing with them. Or conversely, they are often too fast or too forward in pursuing their sales opportunities before we form a relationship. To build a relationship, try these three steps soon after you have met. Here's a better way…after each event: 1. Scan - Get a time-saving card scanner to enter the contact info into your computer. 2. Send - Send them a personal email/ phone call to foster the connection. 3. See the person again - Go to the next meeting and seek out your new contact. Meet for coffee or lunch. Use this strategy and you will strengthen your relationships and perform a variety of roles in each other's network. March is the month to make your own luck and go after your Pot of Gold!
