Set Daily Goals in Your Scrapbooking Business to Balance Work and Home

By: Dawn Stegall

It's a fact. Most moms are known to be control freaks. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. When you run a scrapbooking business from home while trying to manage your home, the stress of managing every detail can be tough. For your sanity's sake, learn to let go of the executive reins and take it easy occasionally.

If you're honest with yourself, you will remember that before you started your scrapbooking business, there were days when the dishes didn't get done and the house was in chaos because you were tired or just plain swamped with to dos. Did anyone complain? So, what has changed?

With the responsibilities taken with your new business, there are more demands on your time. Don't worry about the house falling apart without your constant attention. All that worrying does is increase your stress and anxiety levels and decreases your productivity in your home office. You need to be able to have your full concentration on your scrapbooking business. It's difficult to be productive when your mind is focusing on your household chores. Think about it. If you were working away from the home, would you be worrying about housework while at the office?

Setting daily goals is one likely solution for your scrapbooking business. These goals should include both family and business related. Setting daily goals helps you maintain the balance between your family and your scrapbooking business. They also help you to be able to relax better.

Here are a few goal-setting tips.

1. Know what your limitations are. In reality, there are no super moms? only us normal moms who are super tired. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your scrapbooking business be. You'll need to take it one step at a time. When working on marketing your business, use one plan of attack at a time and develop that strategy. As your client base increases, and you are comfort with that strategy, then you can begin implementing new strategies, adding more projects or clients. Allow yourself time for each project so you can provide excellent service and complete the projects on time. This is a great feeling of accomplishment.

2. Create time in your weekly planner for both business days and housework days to lessen the stress. There will always be housework to do, especially with kids around. For one brief shining moment, your house is clean, everything looks perfect, and then, the family comes home. To combat worrying about a messy home, set a day in your schedule when your business work load is light or take time in the morning each week to devote to cleaning. Be sure to set a time frame, so you don't spend the whole day doing the housework. Simply do what is necessary. Do a load of dishes and throw a load of laundry in while straightening the family room. The rest can wait for another time. I know what you are thinking, "she's crazy!"(or not very clean) However, on the days when you need your scrapbooking work to be a priority, your mind will be totally focused on the business and not the laundry.

3. You'll definitely want to schedule in some free time. While scrapbooking for fun satisfies an emotional need, you also need some down time. Taking time for you in your week will help you to balancing work and home. You don't have to factor it in every day, butdefinitely when necessary. Sometimes getting away from your work and returning with a fresh and relaxed mind can make all the difference. Like a rubber band, you'll snap if stretched too far. Make time to do something YOU enjoy, even if it's just sitting and doing nothing!

Every day brings a new opportunity to grow your scrapbooking business, while enjoying your family and taking time for you to rejuvenate. A well-balanced life boosts your productivity and overall well-being in every one of your tasks, but especially your home scrapbooking business.
