Skyrocket Your Sales with Free Articles and Reports

A powerful tool to not only build your opt in list but to actually drive traffic to your website is to offer free, and valuable, information in the form of articles and reports. Learn how to make the most of this tool by reading this list of dos and don’ts.

Writing articles for free article web sites is a great way to drive traffic to your business web site. However, if it isn’t done correctly, you run the risk of turning people, and potential customers away.

The following is a list of article writing do’s and don’ts designed to help you launch your business and/or to market your current business or service.

Don’t use jargon or tech speech. Each industry has their own language. However, people new to the industry will not be familiar with the language. Use jargon and you run the risk of alienating prospects before they’ve even had the opportunity to see what you have to offer. Additionally, articles that are written using words that people are unfamiliar with may make you seem condescending and I’m sure that isn’t how you want your potential customers to feel.

Do write the article like you were speaking to someone you just met or to a friend that isn’t familiar with the subject matter. Speak to them in a friendly and conversational tone.

Don’t make your article too long or too short. When writing for the internet, an article that is too short runs the risk of being dismissed by readers and potential customers as probably not having much valuable content. An article that is too long overwhelms. Most people, while they spend a good amount of time at the computer, don’t want to spend too much time reading a single article.

Sounds tricky, right? What is the right length?

Do consider your audience. A good rule of thumb for an article on the internet is about 300-500 words.

Don’t forget your hook. When using the free article sites to draw business, you must not forget to include some sort of hook or selling piece in your article.

Do be sure to include your contact information and a compelling reason to visit your website in your bio or if possible in the body of your article, near the bottom. Now you have people visiting your site to learn more about your products and services. Leave your hook out and you’re simply providing them with information for information’s sake and that probably won’t sell your products or services.

Don’t forget to write a compelling headline. Last time we talked about the importance of a compelling headline for your web copy. It’s no less important with your free articles.

Do make sure your headline is catchy and relevant.

Articles & Reports are a great way to drive tons of traffic to your website. This can be a very powerful marketing tool if done correctly.
