Let me see; What IS the True Meaning of Christmas to me or for that matter to most people on this earth? That’s a BIG question and one that will have millions of answers from millions of people, depending on their religion, way of life and personality. We have some that prefer not to talk about Christmas at all, because to them it is a religious holiday and they don’t believe in a religion (thus the phrase ‘Happy Holidays’). To others, they have a multitude of names for their own God; but in reality no matter what the name HE (no matter what the name) is still there in their lives. Then, we have the ones that are still trying to figure it out (good luck, either you believe or you don’t). As for me; I believe! I believe that we were all put here for a purpose, I believe that I am a living, breathing human, I believe that someone or something is watching over me and helping me get through life and I believe that everyone has the right to look at the season as they see fit and whatever works for them in their own lives. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations not are you in this world to live up to mine. BUT, don’t try to take away my right to believe, to worship, to pray as I see fit or to live my life according to my religion. No matter what religion you are, we all believe that there was a birth on December 25th and we have the one thing in common that we celebrate that birth and give thanks for it happening. So, you see, we are all one, brothers and sisters in faith. To the others that don’t believe in formal religion, so be it. Do your thing, believe in what you want or don’t believe at all, the choice is yours; you have that right. But, I also have a right and besides not treading on my flag, don’t tread on my religion! Will I be saying Happy Holidays to people this year? Maybe! Chances are that I will be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ a lot more. By doing this, I am not taking away from any other religion; I don’t know the proper salutation for many of the others. Do I say Happy Hanukah? I don’t know, but I do know that anyone that is religious will understand, say thank you and feel a little bit lighter and brighter because I acknowledged a salutation. They understand that I have a different religion but that I bless them and theirs at this time of year and isn’t that what the season is all about? Caring, Giving, Feeling, Loving and consideration for our fellow man and women? The little child whose birthday we celebrate knows that we are all trying our best, that we want to be the best that HE would like us to be and that we care about each other, even the ones that are skeptics. So after having said all of that, I wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart. By the way….if you are listening….Happy Birthday!
