The Rule Of Thirds For Brochure Layouts

A brochure printing layout needs to be visually appealing in order for it to attract your target clients’ attention. For you to do that, you need to apply the Rule of Thirds when printing brochures.

So what is the Rule of Thirds? It is dividing your page into thirds when printing brochures to have your most important elements placed strategically within each division.

Dividing your page in thirds allows you to have a brochure printing that has equal amount of space between elements in your divisions. Hence, there’s a consistent balance in the overall appearance of your collateral.

And consistent with its name, the Rule of Thirds have three ways that can benefit your marketing campaign when printing brochures:

It achieves balance.
Your elements are applied equally in each of your divisions, therefore, you create a balance everywhere in your color brochures.

To apply the Rule of Thirds to create balance, provide a vertically symmetrical layout where you find your headline on the upper third portion of your page. The logo then should be placed in the middle third portion, with the supporting copy, which describes your message, located in the lower portion of the page. The lower third portion is also used to ensure that you have a secure page without having to appear as if everything is falling apart.

Another way to apply the Rule of Thirds to achieve balance is to have an asymmetrical layout where many of your major elements are found in the upper as well as the leftmost third of your page. The focal point nevertheless is placed around the intersection where the top and leftmost lines divide your page.

It achieves center and balance visually.
What the Rule of Thirds does for your brochure printing is to generally provide balance in your overall appearance, as well as put emphasis on your most important element. This is where your center should emanate.

The trick to it is to place your most important element in the center of your page. You don’t have to be precise about it. A rough estimate will do. To make it easier for you, always remember to put your visual center at the right and above the actual center of your page.

It achieves grids and balance.
As no brochure has balance without the grids, the Rule of Thirds allows you to create structures in your design, which can make it easy for you to work on your page. Hence, the grids.

Grids are invisible lines that let you place your elements in their right place. Thus, your page will have a more balanced layout without sacrificing the consistency in your design.

Creating your grids depend on your needs. It can be as simple or complicated as you want them to be. Just remember that they are there to help you create a more balanced design in your brochure printing.

The Rule of Thirds is one of the basic guidelines to have when printing brochures. It creates visually appealing print brochures. So the next time you’re thinking of doing your brochures, try using the Rule of Thirds, and see a big difference in the overall design of your collaterals.
