The Work at Home Mom Blues and How to Get Over Them for Good

The work at home mom blues. Do you ever get those? I do, and I know I'm not the only one. Recently I surveyed some other work at home moms and asked if they ever got down about their business too.

According to that survey, and from my own experience, here are some of the things that can get us moms down when we work from home:

- feeling lonely at home
- unstable income
- lack of a social life other than the internet
- demanding clients
- not enough clients
- things not going according to plan
- feeling overwhelmed with work and housework

When you think of everything that work at home moms have to juggle, I think it's pretty understandable if we feel down about it once in a while. But, I know for myself, being blue for a day or two can cause an even bigger problem.

When I'm feeling down, I don't put everything I should into my business. Which means, while I'm feeling sorry for myself, I could be losing out on new clients, more sales, and all the other good things that working at home has to offer.

I don't know if you really can get over the "blues" for good, but I'm sure working on it. If you want to get over the blues too, here are some tips you might want to try.

1. Remember why you're at home. If you're a work at home mom, you probably decided to stay at home so you could be with your children. If you're feeling in the dumps, spending some time with the kids might be just the thing to perk you back up again

2. Avoid negative people. I've found I need to avoid certain people who make me feel less than wonderful about deciding to stay home. Sometimes they question my decision. Sometimes they focus on the negative things in my life because I've chosen a lifestyle that's different from theirs. I'm learning to avoid people who can't support my work-at-home life.

3. Treat yourself. As a work at home mom, you give so much of your life to other people – to your clients, to your family, to your kids. If you're feeling blue, it might be because you have forgotten to treat yourself well. Do something just for you that makes you feel special. Maybe treat yourself to your favorite cup of coffee once in a while, or lunch with a girlfriend. Even taking a walk by yourself can feel like a luxury.

The work at home mom blues might be something you always have to deal with. But if you have a plan in place for handling them, you'll get over them much sooner when they do come.
