These Cookies are for the Dogs - Beefy Dog Treats for Fido

By: Denise Willms

Kids aren't the only ones who love their treats! Here is recipe for cookies that Fido (or Bruin or Rover) can safely enjoy.

Ingredients You Need:

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules
2 tablespoons boiling water
2 1/2 cups alll-purpose flour
1 cup nonfat dry milk
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup cooked long grain rice
1 envelop unflavored gelatin
1 small jar baby food - vegetable beef dinner flavor
1 egg
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

What You Do:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.

In another small bowl, dissolve the bouillon in the boiling water.

Next, in a large bowl, mix together both flours, milk powder, rice and gelatin.

Stir in the baby food, egg, oil, yeast mixture and bouillon mixture until well mixed.

Knead the mixture until it forms a ball.

Place the ball on a lightly floured surface and roll to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a bone shaped cookie cutter.

Place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 1 inch apart.

Bake cookies at 300 F for 25 -30 minutes, or until set. Let the cookies cool on wire racks. Let stand about 24 hours to harden before serving to your favorite pup.

These are great to make for doggy gifts at Christmas, or any other special time of the year. My kids enjoy making these for the anniversary of the day our dog Roxy came to live with us.
