Tips on How to Decorate a Church for a Wedding

By: Darlyn Burkle

Most weddings are held in a church but do you know how to decorate a church for a wedding? This is one of the questions many brides ask. This article will answer that question and show you how to plan everything so you know what you need and how to do it. You will know the basics of how to decorate a church for a wedding when the big day arrives.

• Flowers

Flowers are the highlight of the decorations and should be considered when you are deciding how to decorate a church for a wedding. You will want them to match your colors as close as possible. You can go with real flowers and donate them after the wedding or you can go with silk flowers and have them for your new home as well.

The flowers should be in vases and put them at the front of the church. At a minimum you will want two (2) flower arrangements. The number of arrangements will also depend on the room at the alter once you have your wedding party with you. You don’t want anyone to be cramped and you don’t want the arrangements to be knocked over either

• Candelabra

When you are figuring out how to decorate a church for a wedding, you may consider having candle lighters and have them light candles in a candelabra. These are very beautiful and can be a wonderful addition to your wedding ceremony. You can rent these from a party store, rental store, or bridal store. You might also check with the church as they may have one as well.

• Pews

Another goof tip on how to decorate a church for a wedding involves the church pews. If the church you are planning your wedding in has pews, you should consider creating flower arrangements for each row. If the church has a lot of pews, you could consider using the first six rows instead of all of them. You will want to put arrangements on the sides that are on the isle that the bride will walk down. The outside pews that are against the wall do not need to be decorated because it won’t be seen in photos.

• Isle

Adding an isle runner is beautiful and makes for easy clean up with the flower petals the flower girl drops. One thing you will want to consider is your shoes. You don’t want to get half way down the isle and have your shoes get stuck in the runner. This could cause you to fall or trip and that’s certainly not what you want on your wedding day.

The above tips are just a few ideas on how to decorate a church for a wedding. You may not want to use all of these ideas, but some of them may have been ones you never thought of doing. Learning how to decorate a church for a wedding is easy but if creativity is not one of your talents, you can just have someone else decorate the church for you. Just make sure the decorations reflect your tastes and preferences and matches the overall wedding theme. After all, this is your special day.
