There are many ways to make money online today. One that is becoming a popular business model to follow is to start a membership site. This is, basically, a site that requires payment before information can be viewed.

Most membership sites fall into these basic categories.

Coaching/Mentoring

This type of site offers help, insight and support to its members, usually focusing on a particular topic. There are different types of coaches – life, business, and Biblical. There are mentoring programs that focus on a particular type of job or industry.

A coaching or mentoring site is an asset to the owner because they can coach many clients at once, instead of one at a time. Of course, one-on-one coaching can be offered at a higher price package if desired.

PLR (Private Label Rights)

A PLR site offers an assortment of articles that can be purchased and legally modified. Some sites offer articles on a large variety of topics, and others center on a particular target market or topic.

Many website owners and bloggers subscribe to these services so that they have content to use on their website, blog, in their newsletter, or they may use it to create a product, such as an ebook or report.

Content

This is probably one of the most popular types of membership site. A content site offers its members resources and information centered on a particular topic or problem. Usually the topic is highly specialized and the information it contains cannot be found quickly or easily elsewhere. Members gladly pay a monthly membership fee in order to have this useful information in one, easy to locate place.

Paid Newsletter

A newsletter site offers its members exclusive access to information that relates to a certain topic. The website owner researches and compiles news and data from all different sources to make it conveniently available to its members.

Message Board or Forum

This type of site will require a payment before someone can post or use other functions of the forum, such as a search. This one may be a little harder to do since there is so much information out there on free forums. The website owner would have to provide information that cannot be easily found on another forum or website for free. The fees that are charged are normally low.

Content Delivered Via Audio

With this type of membership, all of your content is delivered to your members or posted on your site as audio files. This can be used to offer audio files on a wide variety of topics to be used as content on other membership sites – like business to business marketing.

You can also combine several of these ideas into one membership site. A content site can also have a members only forum, and a paid newsletter can feature a monthly audio bonus. The possibilities are endless, and the more you offer your subscribers, the more they will value your service.
