What does your website say about you?

By: Nicole Walker

What does your business website say about you?

v How long has it been since you updated your website?
v Do you provide useful information to those who visit your site?
v Have you listed any Events, Features, Sales or Special information on your website?

These are just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself. If you have your website on your business cards, catalogs or flyers be sure you are sending your potential customers, hostesses and team members to a website that provides useful information and reflects your personal style! Your website is often the first exposure a potential customer has to you and your business so be sure to give them a reason to stay on your site.

WEBSITE DO’S:
Share your personal story in your introduction! Let people know why you joined or started your business. Tell visitors why you believe in the company and about available opportunities with your company. BE SINCERE – people sense when you’re trying to “sell” them!

Provide useful information for visitors. They are coming to your site to learn more so give them more! More information! More Facts! MORE REASONS TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU!

List Events! If someone looking to explore your business opportunity visits your site and see no events, they assume you aren’t doing anything! Use this area to list shows, expos, bridal shows, meetings and other events that you participate. You can even use this space to list a monthly sale or new team member promotions!

Make sure your site is FEATURE rich! Be sure to include information about products, hosting a show, the business opportunity, and any special promotions you have going on. Update often. Don’t forget to include information about your business start up kit if applicable. People looking into an opportunity always want to know what comes in a starter kit and if they don’t find this information on your page, they are likely to look elsewhere.

ASK QUESTIONS! Yes! Ask questions in your features like: Would you like to see a full color catalog? Do you have 3-4 hours a week to start your own business? What would you do with extra monthly income? This prompts visitors to answer the questions, thus prompting them to contact you to learn more or request more information!

WEBSITE DON’T’S:

Don’t use “cookie cutter information! If you are using the information your company provides to help you set up your site and add instant content, keep in mind that most other representatives for your company have the same information on their sites! BE CREATIVE AND UNIQUE!

Don’t go searching other representative’s sites and “borrow” features and content! Aside from being just plain rude, keep in mind that often times, people “shop around” and visit other advisor sites --- set your self apart from them by providing ORIGINAL content that reflects your personal style!

Don’t make promises regarding income potential or guarantee a set business income or ridiculous hostess benefits based on above average show sales. Use phrases like: the average representative earns, or the average hostess earns... If your company is a member of the DSA, please note that it is against DSA regulations to promise set income or make promises you cannot guarantee!
