Work at Home as an Affiliate Marketer

By: Denise Willms

For a work at home mom (WAHM), affiliate marketing can be an ideal opportunity to create a full time income from home. While becoming a successful affiliate marketer takes a lot of work, it's appealing to moms in particular because it's such a flexible work at home job.

When you work at home in affiliate marketing, you don't have to follow anyone else's schedule, there is no need to keep the dog quiet so you can talk on the phone, or to get all gussied up so you can meet with clients. You can work at home whatever hours you choose. If you're a mom, that means you can work during your baby's naptime, while the kids are in school, or in the middle of the night when it's finally quiet enough to hear yourself think.

With all this going for it, affiliate marketing may sound like the work at home job of your dreams, but it does take a lot of work to make good money at it.

When you're an affiliate marketer, you earn money by telling people about products and services you recommend. You earn a commission when someone buys it because of your recommendation.

How do you know if someone bought it because of your recommendation? When you sign up as an affiliate for a company (which is free to do, by the way) you get a unique link called your affiliate link. Then you put that link on your website, on your blog, and on your newsletter. You can even post it on Facebook or Twitter.

When someone clicks on that link and makes a purchase, you can earn a commission on that sale. You don't need to talk to them or follow up with them. The company you're an affiliate for handles all of that. Even if the customer has a complaint, they won't go to you. They will go the company they purchased from and ask them to handle it.

And what will you be doing while all this is going on? You may be making your next affiliate sale, playing outside with the kids, or even asleep in your bed at night. Which is probably just what you dreamed of when you decided to work at home.
