Ruth Willms's Articles in Preschool Activities

  • Foot Painting
Children love to paint. While painting they are in control. They can choose the colors they want and they can paint any scene they desire. The colors and flowing movements of painting can be very calming to the child. Foot painting might be more of a challenge to them than the usual brush method.
  • Making a Friendship Collage
Having a true friend is a wonderful thing. We can help our child make good friends by teaching them to be a good friend. We can also teach them to be a friend to the needy or friendless child. When you call the other child’s parents ask them to have some pictures available that their child has chosen. The children can then make each others pictures into a collage and keep them to remind them of their new friend.
  • Good Feelings; Bad Feelings
Just like us, their parents and grandparents, a child has mixed emotions. One minute he can feel giddy with happiness and the next he can be crying over a broken toy. Making “feeling finger puppets” with your child and then helping him identify his feelings is a good way to help him understand and accept his emotions.
  • A Mother's Day Gift
Following is the history of Mother's Day and a simple but very meaningful gift for children to make for their mother on Mother’s Day. Of course, if you're a mother reading this article, you will want to share it with your child’s father or other caregiver as a hint for your Mother’s Day gift.
  • Where is the Mouse?
Children love to look for things. So why not incorporate it into their learning activities?

This game is a wonderful way to teach your child or class of children the different colors. They will be wondering which house that mouse is hiding in but of course you won’t let them look in the house unless they can tell you the color first. Then when they find the mouse it will be their turn to hide it so you or another child can guess where it is.
  • Learn About Plants with Preschoolers
Spring is here! However, depending on where you live it may not look very much like spring outdoors. In our Canadian prairies spring comes late. Winnipeg still has lots of snow and here in Calgary it is still too cold to plant gardens outdoors. We are fortunate there are many ways to enjoy gardening indoors.

In this experiment we will learn what plants need to grow and be healthy.
