I get a lot of traffic to my website, but don’t make many sales. What am I doing wrong?

By: Jill Hart

It can be difficult to make paying customers out of website visitors. Your site needs to be easy to navigate, easy to read and easy to use. Let me elaborate:

Easy to Navigate – Your website is a reflection of your product. If your website is complicated, your visitors will get frustrated and give up. So, in order to keep your visitors around, make your navigation simple. I’ve found a simple HTML menu on either the left or right side of every page works well. Also, pick out a few popular items to feature on your main page.

Easy to Read – Visitors do not want to search through pages of information about a product to find a price or other specifics their looking for. Be upfront with pricing and information about your products. Your customers will appreciate it.

Easy to Use – Be sure that your website is not only easy to navigate, but easy to use. Choose a simple shopping cart or check-out program, preferably one that most customers will be familiar with. Also, check your website on various web browsers (i.e. IE, Firefox, Safari) to make sure that your site looks good and loads quickly.

Making your website a customer-friendly place is the best way to turn browsers into shoppers. One last recommendation is to offer a newsletter tat visitors can sign up for. This allows you to keep in contact with them and send out emails featuring sales and specials.
