5 Easy Ways to Save Money When Funds Are Tight

By: Darlyn Burkle

Saving money is a good thing to do no matter what you are going through or what the economy is doing. The question is what are the best ways to save money when there is already not much to go around. Everyone could agree that there are so many reasons for saving money, but coming up with ways to save money can be a challenge especially when funds are tight or you need to save money quickly.

Here are some ways to save money no matter what your reasons are.

- Eat Out Less

It's so obvious that many people tend to over look it, but eating out at fast food restaurants or sit down restaurants can be expensive. Eating out less is one of the quickest ways to save money. It will cost you more than $25 for a family of four to eat at a fast food restaurant. For $25 you could fix a week's worth of lunch or at least two dinner meals. This doesn't mean you can never go out again, just limit yourself to once a week or month depending on how often you were going out before.

- Eliminate Specialty foods

Specialty foods are a treat or at least they should be treated that way when you are trying to save money. These foods can cost double or even triple what we would normally spend. These foods could include lobster, rib eye steak, or shrimp. At times it's possible that you could create two or three meals for the price of one of these specialty foods.

- Use The Clothes You Have

When money is tight and you are looking for ways to save money, purchasing new clothes should go to the way side. If you must buy clothes consider purchasing at a retail store instead of a high priced name brand store. If you purchase all of your clothes at the name brand store, it's a good idea to hold off if it's at all possible until you can afford to make the purchases.

- Give Homemade Gifts

It never fails, when you need to save money, something comes up where you need to give a gift. Special occasions come up where you are not prepared, for example, bridal showers, baby showers, or a wedding. When this happens, consider making the gift yourself. Homemade gift baskets are perfect for these occasions.

- Economize on Gas

Gasoline is another area where you can find ways to save money. Driving a car instead of a truck, carpooling to work, running all your errands at once, and walking are just a few of the ways you can save money on gas. The price of gas has gone down some, but the price for other things such as food has not, so saving money on gas will help you increase other areas where you need the money.

The five tips in this article are just a small number of ways to save money. If you re really serious about coming up with ways to save money in your own family, then start by taking a look at what you purchase in a month. Write everything down so you can look at the big picture. Look at what you can cut back on or even cut out all together and that will help immensely. You might also ask others if they have any ideas for ways to save money. You never know what they may come up with to help you out.
