Affordable Search Engine Placement

By: Laura Taff

If you currently own a web store or would like to very soon, you may or may not know that search engine optimization (SEO) is information you should implement on your web pages that search engines evaluate to rank you in their natural listings. Natural or organic listings are the ones that appear under a box of paid advertisements. Studies have shown that a person's eyes tend to look there in the natural listings first, so you want to be at the very top of those listings so that human visitors can find your web site. Below we'll cover what information needs to be added, how to add it, and how much of a strain on your wallet it will take.

You may not know this, but there are many things you can do to your website to optimize it absolutely FREE! We will cover many of those in the paragraphs to come; However, it is vital that you know that there are legitimate software programs out there that help you achieve a fully optimized site that can achieve top rankings in as little as 30 days. This means more money in your pocket a lot sooner! These programs expand on the information I'm about to give you and include amazing tools that no one else offers. There's an initial investment you'll need to make one time, but then you'll be able to utilize the program for every single web page you've built and will build from now on. Check the links at the end of this article for more information on those programs.
As described above, there are a few no cost options to optimize your site for good placement. First you must understand keyword phrases. A keyword phrase is what a human visitor types in to the search box on Google or other search engines to find web sites that offer what they need. When you are web site owner, you can use this to your advantage because if you know people are specifically typing in "discount clothing for women" and you operate a retail or affiliate store that offers coupons and promotions for women's clothing, you could utilize this keyword phrase in each Meta tag of your page.
Meta tags are hidden pieces of info that the search engines "see" and use to determine what your page is about. They base your rank on how important your site appears compared to other sites with the same content. To be able to use Meta tags on your web pages you should know how to add them. IF not, check the help section of the program you used to create your web pages. There are three Meta tags you will need to add: title, description, and keywords. All of these should contain the keyword phrase you find to be the most important for your page. There are certain techniques to finding the right keyword phrase, and just any old phrase you find won't do.

So how do you find these fool proof keyword phrases? Go to Google and type in "Google keywords" to get to their keyword tool. Enter a phrase you think applies to your site. Perhaps you type in "clothing for women". Google will show you how many people typed in that keyword phrase in the last month. They will also show you related phrases that you could also use. Look for the phrases that get around 1,000 searches per month. It can be a little more or a little less, but this is the general guideline number. Next, open a new tab to go to the regular Google search engine, and type in that phrase with quotes around it. If you used the example and typed in "clothing for women", look at the light blue bar before the search results and you'll see that it says: results: 1-10 of about 478,000. That means 478,000 other websites have that particular keyword phrase on their website. This is too much competition to try to deal with at first. You want to look for keyword phrases that only have 500-6000 other websites that use that same exact phrase. Again, a little more or a little less is acceptable.

Next, you'll notate all the keyword phrases you can use, and then go optimize one page per keyword phrase on your site. That's right, every single page on your site should have different content in the Meta tags and should aim for a different, related, keyword phrase.

You must pick the right keywords! If you don't, human visitors can't find your site and you'll be lost in the jumble of millions of other websites on the Internet. There is a better way to pick the best keywords for guaranteed results, and that is Keyword Elite. You can find a link to it at the end of this article. The above information will work, but this program is a hundred times better at helping you find and utilize the right keywords for your site that will have you generating an income faster.

Now that you've found the best keywords, you're ready to enter your Meta tags. The title Meta tag will determine what shows up at the very top bar of your page. It may also appear on the search engine's results list. You should keep your title brief, and don't try to add too many keywords there. Using the example we went over above, your title would simply be "Discount Clothing For Women".

The description Meta tag should start with the same exact keyword phrase and offer descriptive sentences on the content of your page. This paragraph will often show up in the search engines under your title, so human visitors will see it and evaluate whether or not to click through to your page based on that information.

The keywords Meta tag does not carry as much weight as it used to. You should use keywords that can be found in the text on your page, (in other words, don't put any keywords that are not found on your actual web page), and put your main phrase first, again remembering not to put too many on there.

It is absolutely vital to note that your page should have a lot of related text on it. You want to make your product description clear and accurate, and then add some more content that relates to what you are offering. Give as much background information as possible, or simply add some useful, related words. For example on one web site I offer discount women's apparel coupons and promotions. Since this is an affiliate site and I don't actually sell anything to specifically describe, I add articles to my pages with lots of words about women's clothing and fashion.
The above are a few simple free steps you can take to achieve good rankings in search engines. Remember this is very basic info. It's all I used for one of my websites and I rank #1 in the natural searches for several of my keyword phrases. However, it took me a long time to get there. Implement these on your pages and you too can get there eventually. Even better, take advantage of the one -time investment of trustworthy software programs that can give you information to get top rankings in as little as one month's time.
