If you have a family of growing children or your grocery store funds are a little tight, learning how to save money on groceries can be important. Maybe your funds are tighter in other places which means your grocery store bill needs to shrink a bit but the food needs to increase. Whatever your reason is, this article is here to help you out.

Frugal shoppers know how to save money on groceries and are able to save money at the grocery store in many ways. They may save between $10 and $60 each time they go to the store. They have several things that they do to make this happen. Here are some tips that will help you when you go to the grocery store.

• Grocery Store Ads

One way to save money at the grocery store is to base your meals off of what is on sale at the store. Review the weekly ads for all the stores in the city you shop in and come up with meals that go along with those items. Of course you will need to decide if you shop weekly or biweekly so you will know how many meals you need to plan. Remember you will need to plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as snacks.

Write a grocery list that contains everything you need to purchase for each meal. You will need to write down your meals as well. You don't necessarily have to write down the specific days you will eat them, but write down each meal.

• Coupons

To learn how to save money on groceries, you should also find out all you can about coupon shopping. Using coupons is another way to save money at the grocery store is to clip coupons from the newspaper. Most newspapers that have the weekly ads in them contain a set of coupons as well. You can plan your meals around these as well. Some stores offer a specific day where they will double the coupon so that is good as well. Coupons can save you 25 cents or more. It may not seem like a lot but every penny helps. Review the weekly ads and the coupons and see how much you can save when you plan meals around both. You may be able to save money on something you will need for a meal that is not on sale.

You may also be able to get coupons from others or online. Do a search on Google or Yahoo for groups that you can join. You maybe able to share coupons via mail or they may be able to share sites with you that offer printable coupons.

• Reward cards

Some stores offer reward cards to shoppers. Each time you shop in their store you are offered reward points based on the dollar amount you spend. When you accumulate a certain amount of points, you can use them towards purchases and save money that way. Some offer discounts to those that use the card while they charge full price for those that don't have one.

Learning how to save money on groceries is important for many reasons. When you save money you can use that to pay off something else or apply more money to another bill. It can also be the difference between affording something and not being able to afford something. Whatever your reason for saving money at the grocery store, these tips will help you be successful.
