Is dropping the weight and improving your health one of your goals for this year? Don’t agonize over joining a gym or finding an extra hour in your day to life weights. Starting by adjusting how you go about your day and soon you will have so much energy that an extra 30 minute workout will be a piece of cake and something you look forward to. Here are five great tips to add to your daily routine. 1. Spend more time at the table. WHAT?!! Yes! Instead of gulping down your next meal try spending a few more moments chewing and enjoying what you are eating. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full or have been fed accordingly so take your time. If it comes down to it count the number of chews before you swallow. 2. Drink more water. Before you reach for that cola or coffee trying drinking at least 8 ounces of water first. Water can help your body flush out toxins improving your health and keeping your skin supple and moisturized. 3. Move it! Before you lazily ask someone to go get something for you get up and get it yourself. The more you move the more you lose. Park a little further away next time (but think of your safety too). Run upstairs to dump a load of laundry in the washer (who thought of putting laundry rooms on the second floor?). Do the hokey pokey with your preschooler. And really get into that next vacuuming session. Just move! Keep that heart healthy. 4. Eat breakfast. Start your day off right. You’ve heard the term “Breakfast like a King”. You need that energy to start your day off right and especially if you are squeezing in exercise. It’s the one meal you should not skip. Now I’m not talking about a high fat no thought breakfast. Cereal for fiber, milk for protein, and juice is a good plan to get your recommended dose of vitamins and minerals. 5. Keep a journal of your daily activities and food intake. Studies show that record keeping is an ideal technique for keeping your goals. Keep a log of everything you put in your mouth and a weekly log of your exercising.
