Helpful Tips For College Students Budget Planning

By: Darlyn Burkle

College students need to have a budget more than anybody else. They go to school full time, live on their own, and have bills to pay. Some times a scholarship pays for some of these items, but other times they don't. Here are some practical tips for college students budget concerns.

As a college student, if you have scholarships that pay for room, board, books, and supplies, you will need to keep track of what you purchase and how much you have left. If you have no idea where to start, try using these tips for college students' budget concerns when it comes to scholarships.

• Spreadsheet

Create a spreadsheet for each scholarship you have. List the name of the scholarship at the top and how much money total you had to spend. If you have more than one scholarship to keep track of, create a spreadsheet at the end that will add all of your amounts together. You can do this by adding the name of each scholarship in one column, and then create a formula that will carry over your total from the other sheet to that one. Then create another formula that adds all of those together.

• Paper sheets

If it's easier for you to write all this information out, you can do that on a blank piece of paper, paper that is lined, or paper that has columns on it. Use one sheet for each scholarship and do the adding manually.

Create a sheet for each month and that way when tuition and books come due, you will remember them. Make sure you document how you will pay for these items. For example, when your tuition and books come due, you will want to make note that those will be paid by your scholarships.

College students also need to budget their time. Here are some tips for college student's to budget their time. When you budget your time, you will know when you can work at your job and when you need to be at home doing homework or class time.
