Honor a Supportive Dad

By: Corrie Petersen

As a work at home mom or a woman business owner, we have a lot of people that support us and remind us each day why we run our businesses. These people probably include our mom, sister, aunt, and our children. But probably the most supportive is our husband.

Our husband is the one that cooks dinner when we have a training call to get on. He is the one that picks the kids up from soccer practice when we have a deadline to meet. He is also the one that reminds us that we do our business because of our family, when we lose a sale or client.

As women, we try to do everything and sometimes that just doesn’t work. Our husbands are always there to help us when this happens and we need to show him how much we appreciate that support.

Father’s day is in June of every year, so why not do something special for him this year and show him that you truly appreciate everything he has done for you. Here are some suggestions that will help you plan a special day for him.

• Breakfast in bed

Breakfast in bed is always so much fun. Make his favorite meal and take it to him while he is still sleeping. The smell of eggs and bacon is a great way to wake up first thing in the morning.

• Picnic

A picnic at the lake, mountain, or park is a perfect lunch idea that is easy to plan. Make his favorite sandwich and include fruit, potato salad, and his favorite pop and you are ready to go.

• Dinner

Take your husband to his favorite restaurant for dinner. He will appreciate it because he probably doesn’t get to go to this place very often so it will be a huge treat for him. When you pay for the meal he will be even more surprised.

• Vacation

A vacation is a great get away and it will be something he will thoroughly enjoy. You can take him to a place he loves to go to or some place he has wanted to go, but you have never done it. When you plan this one you need to think about the things he loves to do. This could be fishing, boating, golf, etc. There are all sorts of trips that you can plan around his favorite activities.

• His day

If your husband enjoys certain activities like working on a car or playing golf, let him have a day to himself. When you plan this for him and follow through with it, he will appreciate so much. Let him do whatever he wants for the day and let him plan it all. If it’s something at the house, consider taking the kids to the park or recreation center for a couple hours to give him time away.

Father’s Day is a time for dads to be honored. They do a lot for their families and they need to know that we appreciate them. As business owners, they support us in ways that others don’t and that is what helps make our businesses a success. More than likely without their help, we would have more stress and we probably wouldn’t be where we are today. So give the husband in your life an extra hug and tell him thanks for the support!
