When you run a business from your home, your family is affected by it in some way. They are more affected when you have a full or part time job outside the home. The reason for this is because we spend so much time working that business and growing it, that our families get pushed to the side. That is not the reason why we started this business, but that tends to happen. There are things we need to do to prevent this from happening. This article will show you some of the things that can happen and how to get around it or prevent them from happening in the future. The biggest thing you need to do is sit down and talk to your family. You need their input on this as well. They need to know why you are working this business, what your intentions are, and how they will be affected. You also need to make sure they tell you when you are going too far with the business and leaving them out. Monthly meetings would be good for this. At these meetings you can share your goals with them and show them how you plan to reach those goals without anything being affected. First thing you need to do is set business hours and share this with your family. If you work during the day, you will need to set business hours for the evenings and weekends. You will want to make sure you give yourself plenty of family time during the week. If you will work your business during the day, you may want to consider working only during the hours your children are in school. There may be times when you have to schedule something outside of these hours, but if you explain it and you don’t do it very often, your family will understand. When the end of your day comes around, that’s it, you are done. You need to turn the computer off and do what you plan to do with your family. If your child has a soccer game or piano recital don’t miss it because you are behind in your work. Your work can be done later. Missing the event is how you are dedicating yourself to your business and not your family. When you plan and organize, you won’t have to miss the event. If your business is getting to a point where you can’t handle the work load and your family time is being jeopardized, you might consider outsourcing some of your work. A Virtual Assistant can write and submit articles, create newsletters, social network for you and many other things that will give you more time to dedicate to your family. Most times, the reason we are running a business is because we want to be able to support our family with money. When the business takes over, you are defeating the purpose and that’s not good. Spend time with your family whenever you can because they are the only family you have.
