How To Make Homemade Pizza Dough

By: Shelly Hill

When it comes to making a homemade pizza, the dough making is the hardest part. If you are like me, you don't like the taste from store bought pizza crusts so you make your own.

This recipe is the one I like to use and it does take some time to make but, it will be well worth your efforts. I think it tastes just as good as the crust you get at your local pizza shop.

Pizza Dough Recipe

1 1/8 cups of warm water (not hot)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoons powdered milk
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons table salt
2 teaspoons butter, softened
2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
Pizza toppings of your choice
nonstick cooking spray

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, powdered milk, granulated sugar, salt and softened butter. Make a well in the center of your dough and place the active dry yeast down into the center of the well, covering the well with additional dough. Let sit for 1 minute and then add in the 1 1/8 cups of warm water. It is very important to make sure your water is warm and not hot as you don't want to kill the yeast. Mix up the ingredients in your bowl using only your clean hands for approximately 3 minutes.

Cover your bowl with plastic wrap and a clean dish towel. Place bowl in a warm area of your kitchen and allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes. Remove dough from bowl and knead for 1 minute. Cover with a clean cotton towel and allow it to rest for an additional 15 minutes.

Lightly flour your dough board and roll out into a large circle or rectangle (depending on the shape of your pizza pan). Lightly spray your pan with nonstick cooking spray and place your crust on top. Prick your crust with a fork in several places. Top your crust with sauce and your favorite toppings.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbling hot.
