We seldom realize how our environment affects our thoughts, actions and energy level. When you are mentally, physically, or emotionally stripped of energy, you are not taking care of yourself. When you become aware of your environment it can improve how you feel about yourself and others around you. And when you don’t treat yourself right, you can’t reap the benefits that the world has to offer. You can’t feel joy, excitement, or see the blessings in anything. Start with cleaning out a closet and watch what opportunities come your way. What does cleaning out a closet have to do with cleaning up your life? When you get rid of the clutter, you make room in your life for abundance. What relationships do you need to improve, create, or dissolve? Unhealthy relationships can hold us back in a big way. Is there a boundary you need to set with someone – even a small boundary? Then do it and see how much lighter you feel. Do you handle the problems that creep into your environment, or do you ignore them? Are you tolerating things and pretending that all is fine? Even something as simple as a leaky faucet can prevent you from having a joyful environment. Sound trivial? It doesn’t matter – fix the faucet and see what happens! Make sure that everyone you come in contact with adds bliss, not stress, to your life. Otherwise, deal with it immediately. Work little by little to clear out the mental, emotional, and physical clutter in your environment. Maybe it is as simple as making your bed as soon as you get up. Spiff up your environment so it is exactly what is best for you. After doing so, you will be able to experience the peace, happiness, and joy that are meant for you. How to Assess Your Environmental Wellness The two exercises below will help bring your attention to your environment and how it may be holding you back. 1. In what ways do you honor the global environment? List five actions you currently take to 2. Your personal environment consists of your physical space (work, home, car, etc) and your personal & professional relationships. In other words, the people, places or things that you come in contact with on a daily basis. Many times, we dishonor ourselves by letting these things get out of hand, broken, dysfunctional, messy, or we tolerate too much. This creates stress and inner conflict because we are living out of integrity with ourselves. Answer the following statements as honestly as possible with a 'yes' or a 'no'. You want to end up with more 'yes' answers than 'no' answers. At home, my closets, drawers, or cupboards are organized and cleaned out. My car is clean and in perfect running order. My physical workspace is pleasant, ergonomically correct and designed to allow me to work stress free. My office or workspace is organized and clutter free. My home/favorite rooms of the house are designed to allow me to feel relaxed. My daily schedule is structured to be stress free. I am in a committed relationship where I feel loved.
