Our skin's primary purpose is to protect us. When we don't take care of our skin, it can't do its job properly - and it looks faded and dull. To look years younger, you must take care of your skin each and every day. However, this does not mean spending hours each morning in front of the mirror, or purchasing a closet full of expensive gadgets and products all promising to make you look 18 again. With just 5 simple things done each day, your skin will start to look more radiant and, yes, even a bit younger. Let's take a look. 1. Cleanse properly. Cleanse your face in the morning and again in the evening without fail. Use a cleanser that is suited to your skin. A ph-balanced cleanser that is creamy is good for dry skin, while most gels are suited for oily skin. You don't have to create suds to get your skin clean. There are many very good cleansers on the market that do not foam. However, if you like suds go ahead and use a sudsy cleanser, just as long as it suits your skin type. Always cleanse your face with a gentle motion, washing at least 30 seconds. Rinse well with fresh water. You'll want to cleanse twice if you have make-up or a heavy sunscreen on your face. 2. Toner is important. A toner should balance the skin's protective barrier by creating an active antioxidant shield to fight damaging free radicals. Some ingredients to look for in a toner are white tea, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid (hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times its weight in water). Also, if your cleanser is not ph-balanced, be sure to choose a toner that will restore your skin to a balanced ph factor. 3. Don't forget to exfoliate routinely. Gentle exfoliation of a dull complexion will help wake it up by removing dead skin cells from the surface. You skin will be refreshed, clear, and bright. Using a non-abrasive exfoliator routinely also helps moisturizers do their work, penetrating deeply into the skin and giving your skin the look and feel you desire. Don't get over-zealous with your scrubbing, though! Over-exfoliating will cause trouble if you have oily skin by making the oil glands go into overtime, producing even more oil. If you have dry skin, over-exfoliating will leave your face feeling sore and abused. Exfoliate on a regular basis, but do it gently. 4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Hydrate and feed your skin with a good moisturizer. Choose a quality moisturizer that offers protection from the elements for your skin , plus offers your skin a good dose of nutrition along with moisture. Look for vitamins A, C, and E, yeast, and other ingredients that would "feed" your face just like you feed your body. Even if your skin is oily, you still need a good moisturizer to give your face a healthy dose of nutrition. 5. Apply sunscreen daily. The daily use of a good sunscreen is your number one defense against aging skin. About 99% of all the signs of aging can be directly linked to sun damage. With a little bit of prevention, you skin can look younger longer. Even simple day-to-day living exposes you face to the sun, even walking to your car and, yes, driving in your car. The windshield is not a sunblock! Check your morning moisturizer to be sure it contains a sunscreen of 15 SPF. If it does not, be sure to add a good sunscreen on top of your moisturizer before you leave the house. If your plans have you outside for a longer time than normal, be sure to apply one of the FDA-approved sunscreens. Look for titanium dioxide or zinc oxide on the label. Is this all I need to do to look and feel years younger? Your routine skincare regime will start you off on the right foot, but you need to treat your whole body for optimum results. The proper diet plan, regular exercise, and drinking plenty of water will propel you into feeling younger and looking younger in no time. Back that up with regular monthly visits to your Skin Care Professional and your complexion will always have that youthful, ravishing appearance you long for.
