Whether you are being laid off or you are quitting your job, you must be prepared before you can make it happen. Unfortunately there are times when we can’t be prepared, but if you can it will make things so much easier both financially and mentally. Financial readiness may be a little bit difficult, but you can make it work if you want to and if you put your mind to it. Of course, you may have to give some things up or you may have to change some things in order for it to work, but you can do it. Some things can’t be done until the time comes, but others can. If it’s possible, you should prepare yourself as much as you can before the day arrives. Again it really depends on your situation as to what you do and how you do it. Here are some things you can do to prepare yourself in advance for your big day. 1. Write out a list of all your bills and how much you owe for each. Also write down the monthly payment amount and the interest rate if you have one. 2. Write down your current income. This should include any money you have coming in from a business if you are working one at this point. 3. The best way to prepare yourself for this is to do your best to make larger payments on bills so you can get them paid off. Sometimes that is not possible because you owe so much, but do the best you can. If you do have bills will really large balances, you might consider sticking that extra money in a savings account so you will have it to fall back on while you are growing your business. 4. Use eBay and garage sells to your advantage. If you have things you can get rid of consider selling them on eBay or have a garage sell. This is a great way to clean your home and make some extra cash. 5. Start making changes with your finances now so you will be prepared when the time comes. Start trimming your costs at the grocery store, gasoline, and anything else you can. 6. Cutting your grocery bill may be easier than you think. Cut coupons, plan meals so you don’t go out as often, and plan your meals around what is on sell. For example if hamburger is on sell, plan meals that contain hamburger instead of chicken. Those are just a few of the ways you can cut costs. You can also lower your cable or satellite package or remove it all together, remove features from your home phone or get rid of it if you have a cell phone with good coverage and a good plan, and figure out ways to lower you monthly bills for your electric and/or gas for the heat and lights. If you have a contract on something it may cost a penalty fee to cancel. Sometimes taking that penalty may be worth it in the long run. Make sure you take the time to figure that out because it may be less expensive than you think. To do this, you’ll need to calculate the monthly cost for this and then multiple that number by the number of months you have left and see if that number is higher than the penalty. If it’s not, try to find a way to come up with the penalty amount. You might also call and ask if they will make payment arrangements with you if you choose to cancel and take the penalty. If you explain the situation you are in, they may be a little more lenient. Frugal living isn’t a bad thing when you think about it. It really depends on how you look at it and what you make of it. If you want to become a full time WAHM, you will have to make sacrifices. Look at the ultimate reason why you want this for you and your family. When you do this you will have a better outlook on your plan and it will make it easier to work.
