Using Aromatherapy through Bathing

By: Lyn Menzies

The uses of aromatherapy through bathing is extremely effective and easy and can be therapeutic or just purely for indulgence. The resorting effects of using Aromatherapy through bathing can be enormous to the benefits of your skin and body, because adding essential oils to your bath water are absorbed through the skin which benefits and moisten your skin while you are laying back relaxing.

A Relaxation bath can calm your whole body and mind after a very stressful day and will help you unwind before bed so that you will be able to get a good night sleep. If you put a DVD on for the children, and get them all set up in the lounge, while you are running your bath, you should be able to get a good 10 -20 minutes of quite and peace while they are still enhanced in that DVD. When you get in the bath try and relax, empty your mind and let the oils soothe away the stress and any pains you may have. Try and stay in the bath for at least 20 minutes.

When you pick the essential oils you want (pick up to 3 oils), add above 6-12 drops of essential oil into one tablespoon of carrier oil into your hot bath. Mixing the essential oil to the carrier base is best way for baths because using just essential oils in there concentrated form, will just float on the top of the water and by mixing with the carrier oil and mixing into the bath will give you better distribution through your bath water. Try some of the following oils for calming effects Basil, bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, frankincense, juniper, lavender, marjoram, neroli, patchouli, rose or ylang ylang. These oils all have calming effects, but some of these can be used to stimulate the circulation and lymphatic system, these oils are juniper, lavender and bergamot oils. The uses of aromatherapy in the bath are not just for relaxation. The stimulating bath is great to give you a kick start first up in the morning, or if you need to be refreshed for a late night. Fill your bath with cool water, add your 6-12 drops of essential oils in a tablespoon of carrier oil and mix well. Jump in your bath a with a washer or bath mitt rub down your body which will stimulate the circulation. The best essential oils for stimulation are, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, juniper, lavender, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary and thyme.

One of the quickest and easiest uses of aromatherapy is your footbath. Many of us have a foot spa now but if you don’t, just use and big bowl and fill it with warm to hot water. If you add 4-8 drop’s of your favorite essential oil and soak your feet for about 15-20 minutes.

But don’t worry if you have not got time for a bath with the uses of aromatherapy you can also used in the shower. Just apply 2-3 drops of your essential oil onto your wet washer and rub over you whole body while standing under your warm shower. You will still feel the benefits of the oils but make sure you put it all over your skin to get the full benefits.
