Rather than style, and fit, which we look for in our own clothing, babies have a whole other set of criteria to run down when shopping for their clothes. Look for clothes that are easy to get on and off. Unlike for adults which is usually something that you can pull over your head for babies clothing that is easy on easy off will be snaps not buttons and not too many snaps at that. Don't buy newborn sizes in baby clothing. Your baby will outgrow these so fast that they will be a waste of money. Babies grow quickly so start your shopping for sizes a few months down the line such as 3-6 month clothing. You will probably get enough for your baby to wear those first few days from baby shower gifts. Baby clothing is one of the most darling things you can buy but don't spend too much on those early months. Baby will spend much of his or her time in onsies (those little bodysuits that snap between the legs, gowns and stretch suits. Don't be afraid of shopping for baby clothing at the used or consignment stores. I was very haughty at first and could not bring myself to buy second hand baby clothing. I quickly changed my tune. Baby clothing is rarely worn very much so many things are in new or like new condition. You will also find a lot of baby clothing in used stores that is unworn and has the tags on it. And lastly be aware of choking hazards on baby clothing. Baby's gum on everything in their path and what closer than their own clothing. Check for loose snaps and buttons as you buy, dress, and wash baby clothing. And cloth all snaps and buttons before doing your baby's laundry.
