Social networking is important for business owners for several reasons. Networking is a way for you to come in contact with people you may not otherwise see from day to day. You also may come into contact with people that either didn’t know about your business or they may have heard of you, but they didn’t know what your business did for its clients or customers. There are so many social networking sites that you can be apart of to help your business. So many that you may not know which ones to use. There are some that may not benefit you as much as others, so you’ll want to avoid those. There are also some that you should use, but they don’t require daily use. Sites like Digg and StumpleUpon are important to business, but are not necessarily used daily. While you should use them at least once a week and you should share your link so others can follow what you are reading. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube are sites you should use regularly. Spending 15-30 minutes each weekday is very beneficial to your business. Here is some information on the important social networking sites. 1. Twitter Twitter is a real time messaging system. It offers the ability to communicate with people without waiting for emails to go through. You have the ability to follow people and they can follow you. You’ll see the posts made by the people you follow. Twitter is a great way to make friends, find business partners, and find potential customers or clients. It’s also a good way to learn things you didn’t know and you can present yourself as an expert when you use Twitter the correct way. 2. Facebook Facebook is a way of communicating with others through your home page, fan pages, and groups. A lot of people use it find old friends and keep in touch with others. It’s also a great way to grow your business. You can network with others on Facebook when you make posts in your status, post on other people’s pages, reply to comments they make, and make posts in fan pages and groups you are apart of. This is something you should do regularly. 3. LinkedIn LinkedIn is basically a resume’ you create online. You can show any job you’ve had, any businesses you have owned, special skills, training or classes you’ve taken, and anything else that you feel is important for others to know about. You can ask for and give recommendations, you can connect with others, and you can list your sites for others to see. LinkedIn gives you the ability to post a status. It also gives you the ability to link your Twitter posts to your status. You can also join groups through LinkedIn and network with others this way. 4. YouTube YouTube is a great way to network your business. Create videos for your business and then upload them to YouTube so you can embed them on your site and then share with others. You can also subscribe to other business owner’s feeds and share your link with others so they can subscribe to your feed. Commenting on videos you watch is another way to network with others. With these four social networking options you will be able to communicate and network with others that will be within your target market. You’ll be able to show others that you are an expert in your field and you’ll be able to show them why they should go with you rather than the competition. Spend at least 15 minutes a day on Twitter and Facebook, update your LinkedIn page a few times a week and upload a video once a month or so and spend time commenting on videos that are created by your target market. This will help you grow your business through social networking.
