I have had friends and relatives who have told me that it’s just not possible to run a marketing business entirely online. If I had started to believe everything people say about online business being a scam, then I wouldn’t have begun. I bet the Wright Brothers were told they couldn’t fly, boy did they prove everyone wrong. When I meet someone who asks what I do for a living, I tell them I market products and services online. Then you get the “look.” You know what that is. All of us have seen it at one time or another; it essentially says, “What is your real job?” There are so many skeptics in the world that people can’t believe what they are hearing. This is my REAL JOB! For every business to succeed whether online or offline, you have to put time and effort into the product. It doesn’t run itself; someone has to be behind the scenes making it work. For some of us the idea of network marketing makes us think of soliciting friends, family, friends of family, complete strangers in line at the grocery store. I don’t know about the average marketer, but for me these are not options for creating a home-based business. Before we go any further, I want to clear up some misconceptions about Internet Marketing. Running an online business isn’t for you if all you want to do is set up a website, and sit back and make money. It will not run itself! Know that you will work just as hard, if not harder, getting your business to be profitable. You also need to know that when you say you are working online, you are working at getting leads, making your website noticeable on the search engines, for some learning what a search engine is and what it does for you and your business. So what does it take to get an online business going? All businesses whether online or offline are all about the numbers. It is all about how much "traffic” you get to your website. It is all about getting as many people to your website as possible, because a certain percentage (somewhere around 5%) of those visitors will click on a link but only a small percentage of those clicks will actually buy something. Remember it is all in the numbers, the more people who visit your website the more will sign into your downline or purchase something, thus contributing to your profits. Which mean getting your product out there for people to click. The more clicks, the more sales. It is not easy getting traffic, especially if you have limited funds available. Which if money wasn’t an issue for most of us, we wouldn’t be working at all, but sitting on a warm beach somewhere. My advice would be simple: advertise as often as you can on FREE ad sites; visit various forums and ask and answer questions leaving your website address behind. I have been able to pick up a few of my affiliates this way. The more you get your name and web address on the net, the sooner the search engines take notice, thus your ranking. Ranking is important! “ What is it?” you ask. Good question. I am not an expert on how to get a website ranked, but I will try and explain it. Ranking is what a search engine uses to know whether to put your website on the first or last page. You can pay for this ranking, and by all means do so if you have the money. All of the major search engines have paid advertising for your website, but if you don’t have the extra cash you just need to get your name out there on the web. Advertise offline: if you are in an area where there are bulletin boards, at the grocery store, library, anywhere you can put up a flyer. Leave business cards at fast food places that have bowls for drawings for free gifts. You can make up your own flyers and cards on your computer. I will lay odds that if you have any Microsoft product on your computer you have the capabilities to do both. Let people know that you have something for them. Don’t be shy about telling people what you do online. I worked at a fast food place for a while to get some extra money to get started, before I quit I had signed up five other people under me. I only worked there 6 months! Hopefully, when all your free advertising is in place, you have signed up at various forums, learned about Traffic Exchanges (more on this later), you will start to see your business grow. It won’t happen overnight, it will happen. At the foundation of any online marketing you have to remember it is a simple business. First you get the leads, making sure leads meet the criteria and then following up and take action to make sure your downline is getting the help they need to succeed. Because the more they succeed, the more your online business succeeds.
